TYLER, Texas (AP) — Police say one suspect has been shot and a second man also is held after an alleged break-in at a law officer's East Texas home.
Tyler police say the woman and the deputy constable who wounded the suspect were not hurt.
Police around 6:30 a.m. Thursday received a call about two armed men breaking into a unit. Officer Don Martin says Smith County Deputy Constable Derek Phillips shot one suspect in the chest.
The wounded man was transported to a Tyler hospital and was undergoing surgery. The second man fled, but was captured walking near a road. Police say a handgun, apparently thrown into some woods after the break-in, has been recovered.
Police believe the suspects randomly chose the apartment.
