Judicial Officer Application Discount
I have a quick question regarding my eligibility to qualify for the "active judicial officer" $25.00 CHL application fee. I am employed by a non-carrying Community Supervision and Correction Department (Adult Probation). While my position is one that is permitted by the State to carry, my department director/judges do not permit it. Would I qualify for the reduced rate under this exception, or not? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: Judicial Officer Application Discount
The legal definition of an active judicial officer is shown in Government Code section 411.201. It says:
If this does not help, I would recommend calling DPS directly to ask them. Maybe someone else can chime in with better information.
If you meet this definition, you get the discount. There is nothing in there about the employer allowing or not allowing you to carry."Active judicial officer" means:
(A) a person serving as a judge or justice of the supreme court, the court of criminal appeals, a court of appeals, a district court, a criminal district court, a constitutional county court, a statutory county court, a justice court, or a municipal court; or
(B) a federal judge who is a resident of this state.
If this does not help, I would recommend calling DPS directly to ask them. Maybe someone else can chime in with better information.
