"There are laws in place in Mexico that say that our agents should not be armed"
So US agents can be in Mexico, they just cannot defend themselves in Mexico. Geez, what a winning approach that appears to be.

They shouldn't take pocket knives either.
There are directions on how to not be a crime victim, several people murdered on highways followed the instructions, however criminals disregarded the rules.

Agents assigned to foreign countries are usually accredited as diplomats by US and the host country, which would provide them the protection of the Vienna Convention (essentially, Diplomatic Immunity). They could not be prosecuted for carrying due to immunity, but I understand that the US agreed 10 years ago that they would not carry. I'll bet the CIA chief of station does though.

Point taken. But I predict he will be released. Even the Nancy Boys at Foggy Bottom take the immunity issue very seriously. Already holding up funds to Pakistan and starting to withhold visas. Military is applying pressure too.Texas Size 11 wrote:Tell that to the CIA guy in Pakistan who is being held even though he has immunity...ScottDLS wrote:Agents assigned to foreign countries are usually accredited as diplomats by US and the host country, which would provide them the protection of the Vienna Convention (essentially, Diplomatic Immunity). I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.
