Letters can't hurt anyway.
Especially to educate police.
I usually e-mail, and/or send anonymous letters to the City Attorney, City Secretary, Mayor, City Police, Each City Council member.
You can create a new G-Mail/Hotmail/Yahoo account just for that and any replies and keep it ...
Anony Mouse.
See viewtopic.php?f=23&t=42833&p=516728#p516728" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (Signs removed)
and viewtopic.php?f=23&t=41993&p=505789&hilit=Mayor#p505784" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (Letter/e-mail educating about signs, which were later removed)

Massive flood of e-mails isn't needed, just putting them "on notice" is good though. Then you have proof if you need it for a civil rights suit, but that thread above they even allow carry at council meetings now :thumbs2:

I doubt signs would not be posted at gun shows on city property, but educated police are a good thing to have.

Does anyone know if the OAG Opinion is still valid? I know that at face value this is 100% contradictory to what the law actually states, but here it is:
Short answer...No, it is not.

Because the legislature added 30.06(e) in 2003. The opinion was based on the law at the time (2001).
30.06(e) It is an exception to the application of this section that the property
on which the license holder carries a handgun is owned or leased
by a governmental entity and is not a premises or other place on which
the license holder is prohibited from carrying the handgun under
Section 46.03 or 46.035.

So here is an interesting question. If you were going to test the signs, how would you do it? If you flirt with the intentional failure to conceal, you are going take the a ride and maybe get a conviction for that.

If you walk in concealed but printing, you would have to get someone to notice and challenge you. I suppose that there is enough security at the gun show to make that happen but unless you did something to help your being noticed, you might stay completely off the radar. Remember that they don't pick up guns on the TSA scanners for much of the time and they are supposed to be specifically looking.

The only other way I can think of is to "out" yourself by announcing that you are carrying without displaying it. That sounds like it is one step removed from suicide by cop. You might not get a chance to make a legal challenge.

I'm happy to help write letters but I agree that it not the most productive thing that we can do. I cannot imagine the promoters caring much unless their traffic is off and the city probably isn't interested, figuring that it is the promoters' problem. There doesn't seem to be a lot of energy in the government to worry about protecting our rights.

I was thinking of walking into Dallas Love wearing a Bianchi fanny pack holster with an NRA Ball Cap and my camo jacket. I'd probably get arrested by the Fashion Police.
