LoneStarCDL & MrRedneck

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

I debated whether to post this because I don't want it to look like it's a hit piece on LSCDL. However, since some of our Members also read TexasGunTalk, I cannot let a false statement made by screen name MrREDNECK go unanswered.

On Feb. 22nd, I posted a call-to-action here on TexasCHLforum and on TexasGunTalk. While most of the responses on TexasGunTalk dealt with the subject matter and answering the call-to-action, a former Member of TexasCHLforum and a current Member decided to turn the thread into a personal attack on me and/or our Members here on TexasCHLforum. The Moderator appropriately intervened to shut down the personal discussion and I don't quarrel with his action. However, it left me without an opportunity to counter a blatant lie told by MrRedneck.

In his post, he claimed that I called him to talk about open-carry and that I told him I wouldn't help LSCDL without a "cost." That's a lie, pure and simple. I've never called anyone with LSCDL and I never offered to help that organization, either for a fee or for free. I do return phone calls when people call and leave voicemail messages, but I never talked with anyone I knew was connected with LSCDL and I certainly didn't offer to help for a fee.

The moderator tried to help by posting a statement that to the effect that I should charge for my legislative work. While I appreciate his motive, it left the impression that I did charge TSRA, NRA, or some organization. The only reason I'm posting this here is because I don't want anyone thinking I have ever charged a dime for my work on behalf of the Second Amendment or gun owners. Over the years, the lost billings to my law firm are over $1 million and MrRedneck's blatant lie is insulting.

MrRedneck was banned here on TexasCHLforum for multiple rule violations, including calling other Members liars. Undoubtedly he is vindictive and will use any thread I start on TexasGunTalk as an opportunity to make it a personal attack and the subject matter of the thread will be lost. (Plus, I'm not one to let lies go unanswered. :thumbs2: ) Therefore, I will not try to post any updates or calls-to-action on TexasGunTalk, but it would be helpful if our Members who also post on TexasGunTalk would post something when our calls-to-action go out and include a link to our thread.

I don't intend this post to be taken as any criticism of LoneStarCDL or TexasGunTalk, nor do I want this to become an attack thread. I just want people to know the truth. Let's not allow MrRedneck to cause a rift between Texas gun owners or gun boards.

As far as I am concerned there is no reason for you to have to defend yourself, especially on your own forum. Most of us know that occasionally there are some people who join the forum for the sole purpose of causing trouble. It usually doesn't take us long to figure out who they are before the moderators and members send them on their merry way.

I have no use for bomb-throwers. That's why I pretty much restrict my "gun-board" activity to this one. There's very little of that here. I have memberships on several others, but I only check them every few months. I'm no longer really active on any of them but this one.

The fact is that a man who wants to act virtuously in every way necessarily comes to grief among so many who are not virtuous.

Niccolo Machiavelli, Italian author of "The Prince", 1469-1527

This reminds me of Charles vs. MrRedneck.

I really get tired of the 'If you're not with me, you're against me' mentality. I see it more and more these days. It seems to me that this philosophy stems from the fact that many today have never been told no and have not had to work to get what they want. I have a friend who fits this persona. He is an only child with parents who were fairly well off. He has been handed everything for most of his life. Even though he is now in his mid-30's, well educated, married and has a high-profile job, he still has the 'my way or the highway' stance on things. Pretty frustrating when people have blinders on and get so tunnel-visioned on their supposed 'goal' that they can't see the whole picture and how their selfishness and want to get their way would potentially damage other things. And, to make it worse, many don't care if it does irreparable harm to something/someone else, as long as they get what they want. :banghead:

And Charles, I will echo the others in reiterating a big 'Thank You!' for all you do and all the personal sacrifices you have made in furthering the shooting sports and helping us retain and regain our 2A rights. :tiphat:

Charles, I am with you 100%. I know what you have done for us in Texas and appreciate it. I supported you for re-election to the Board of Directors of the NRA, and you were one candidate for whom I could vote with confidence. Thank you for all of your efforts on behalf of Texas gun owners.

I enjoy passionate debate as much as the next guy and I'm sure the folks around here know that I'm opinionated. However, there is no reason for personal attacks on this or other boards targeting you, or the Texas CHL Forum that you make possible. I subscribe to other boards and generally make a practice of using the same screen name, where available. Nature of the Internet is such that I don't feel the need to post my personal details on public forums, but I learned a while ago that there is very little true anonymity on electronic media.

Thanks for making this forum available and for encouraging varying opinions and honest debate. Of the 10 or so firearms boards that I subscribe to, this one is the most tactfully and unobtrusively moderated, without allowing it to degenerate into the name calling and baiting seen in completely open groups. The quality of this forum is such that I woud be willing to pay a subscription fee, but appreciate that you don't charge one. Although I generally don't like directly contributing cash to political causes, I make an exception for the NRA, partially due to your association with them.

Thanks for your time and involvement in helping to protect our 2A rights, here in TX and across the country. :clapping: .
Your self defense is unrequired, though understandable.. End of issue.

Your call to action to pass on, posted Call to Action's here on this forum... Done.. To easy.

Your likely unintended 2nd and 3rd order effects from this post.. I just joined two other Gun forums.. No to flame away, not to hunt out an individual by name, but to spread the word as requested, and to monitor nonsense as described in Chas's initial post.

I remember back in the days when the Packing.Org website was where it was cool to be...It got to be such a chore to get through the surliness of some of the subject matter, and I had a hard time keeping up if I needed to moderate any of the discussions, so I very rarely did so in that capacity...

When Charles Website came into the spotlight, it was definitely a breath of fresh air, and we were all very welocme to participate in whatever capacity and knowledge level we were coming from...We ALL stand to continue to learn something from the folks that participate here, so it is obvious why I still hang out around here...

It angers me to know that there are keyboard commandos that do and say some of the most blatant lies and fabrications, that come into a place like this where those of us who have been around in here for a while enjoy the information flow, yes, it does get testy in here from time to time, but I would rather it be a mature test of wills and knowledge than childish and immature attacks on a persons (claim to fame)...I think most of us can smell a duck when we see the info...But that is not all that important...

Charles is a stand up guy, and little short ;-) , but he has earned his stripes, and I would go to war (by his side) with that guy in a heartbeat on any issue...

This is the only active pro-Second Amendment website I actively participate in...

We will always have a few putzes and posers come in here and try to dictate policy...Whats funny, is we always have the advantage of the majority knowing the best way to quell a disturbance is to just ignore it, walk away, and it'll die on the vine as far as I am concerned...

Lets git back to work on what is important!!! :txflag:

These guys are their own worst enemies, and tend to be confrontational.
I made a post on my blog at about the middle of December, and I got a comment from them that I thought was confrontational in tone. I don't know what makes these guys so angry with those who would like to support them. Although I believe in what they are trying to do, I sure wouldn't want to work with these guys. I can't imagine they are getting much support from our legislaters either. Last week

The Campus Concealed Carry folks come across as nice people, While the OC people come across as plain old angry . The CCC are gaining support while the OC advocates don't seem to be winning any one over.
