I actually love the "wild west" references used by anti-gunners
That was a relatively peaceful time when thousands of ranchers and Farmers and shopkeepers wore guns and any "gun violence" was so rare that a youngster like Billy the Kid got famous because of the rarity of that type occurrence.
Now no one wears guns and there are so many murders daily that they can't all even be on the news and the few who are are forgotten quickly because ten more made the news the next day. So the young gangster murderer doesn't have much chance at fame like Billy the Kid did.
Yeah, I'd like the "old" west alright. People were safer then. (Excluding Indians)
It was a time when there was "more guns, less crime" that's why they dislike it?
Then they shouldn't bring it up if they don't want it examined.
They set the "focus" of the conversation, I just adjusted the "zoom" and when examined under the microscope, their argument fails.
"This isn't the wild west"
Perhaps it should be, people were safer then.

It's strange how so many conflate Hollywood big screen (and small screen) with reality. Some folks either can't tell the difference or don't care. Makes me wonder about the human race sometimes.

I've come across some literature that covers the relatively peaceful "wild west" and the skyrocketing crime that occurred after law and order was supposedly established. When I have some time I'll dig up the references.

That would be very enlightening. I would be interested in reading what you have.
My dad used to tell us about the time when he was 9 or 10 in Temple, Tx (around 1910) and a bad guy had a shoot out on Main St. with the local constable just like John Wane; six-guns at twenty paces in the middle of the street. According to dad this was the most exciting thing that ever happened in Temple, Tx. It was the only time he could ever remember of anyone actually getting killed in the whole county. Incidentally, the constable won. That wasn't the Old West but it was certainly a long way from the two killings per day (avg.) we have in Houston.
