The new Constitutional RIGHT to iPODS
This is what we're up against.
From the Denninger article: http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=181727
"Our Nation Is DONE
"We need to add to the Constitution the right to a family to have a decent home."
"We need to add to the Constitution the right to medical care."
"We need to add to the Constitution the right to a decent education for every America. (including providing every student with an iPOD and a Laptop!)"
This is what passes for an alleged Representative, D-Illinois, 2nd District."

Edited to add:
The audio and video being out of sync raised my suspicions so I did a little more checking. Some defenders my try to claim he didn't say what he said or that the video is edited. Obviously, it is edited to show only a portion of his speech. When he attributes these new additions to the constitution to another person he is apparently referring to FDR. And from the transcript it looks like he really said what the shorter version of the video has him saying. A full transcript of the speech is available here: http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary ... =599633001

Re: The new Constitutional RIGHT to iPODS
This kind of sounds like a play on FDR's so-called "Second Bill of Rights".
In a nutshell, what he proposed was this:
A guarantee of:
-Employment with a living wage
-Freedom from unfair competition and monopolies
-Housing
-Medical Care
-Education
-Social Security
Basically it was designed to make people dependent on the government (only the Federal Gov't could pull this off).
Can you imagine how much that would cost these days? - Social Secuity is huge just by itself.

This is not legal advice.

Bastiat's "The Law" is a good read along those lines.Kythas wrote:"The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money." - Alexis de Tocqueville
"If you have ten thousand regulations you destroy all respect for the law." -Winston Churchill

He's asking for the repeal of the 13th amendment.

I agree with another poster, JJ was quoting FDR's "Second Bill of Rights".
I encourage all of you to Google it.
I read his speech and found the footage. I was stunned.

This is EXACTLY the problem. Nail on the head...Kythas wrote:"The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money." - Alexis de Tocqueville
And now that 50% of households don't pay federal taxes, there's 50% of the country that takes no immediate financial hit when taxes go up. Want a new iPad? Let's vote for the person that promises it to us as an entitlement...
Only fiscally conservative and intelligent choices will save us.
Unfortunately, the will to do so seems to be in short supply.
I am not a lawyer. This is NOT legal advice.!

Re: The new Constitutional RIGHT to iPODS
Not in so many words, but sure as heck would have that effect - because everything he wants to define as a "right" requires in some form or another the "right" to someone else's time or "work output", or just outright money, which those of us who work for a living have to trade our time in order to acquire said money in the first place.psijac wrote:He's asking for the repeal of the 13th amendment.
