One of the first videos I saw on youtube had a guy going around seeking signatures to "END WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE!!!"

He asked mainly women who related suffrage to suffering... *sigh* it was funny though

that's the one i was talking about in my post above. i saw an extended video somewhere though, can't find it now. they talked to a few more people that had signed it, and a lot of them admitted that they signed the petition just for the sake of protesting something.

Then again, there are many for whom the facts are irrelevant. Feelings are more important. "I tot a warm feeling from the young man so I signed his petition."

That's also in large part a product of the school system starting with the distorted and counter-productive emphasis on self-esteem without accomplishment. When you tell everyone they're wonderful just because they consume oxygen you breed monsters. Obviously, you can't sell this nonsense when so many should actually feel shame instead of pride, so you have to substitute feelings for facts. There are lots of people out there who like having their feelings validated so it's an easy sale.

My son tutors public school children and it's rare that poor students have any sense of just how ignorant they are. The gulf between reality and their own concept of their ability is huge. They're getting these delusional and ultimately self-destructive notions from the self-esteem nonsense they're sold in school.

This hit me between the eyes, because it is so true. I see it everyday, especially since I spend so much time out in Los Angeles, the epicenter of not being responsible for your own actions.

Well, Bush Jr. gave them the tax breaks starting in 2001, but I don't see jobs

But they are such easy targets with their lack of reason, logic, or many other good qualities.

I have yet to meet one who has learned the law of unintended consequences.

There are many different definitions of liberal. The traditional liberal advocates small government and opposes government intrusion in the private lives of individuals, from sex to religion to "progressive" taxes. The problem is some socialist and communist groups started calling themselves liberal, and have perverted the original meaning of the word.

It's like the word decimate. It originally meant to reduce by one tenth, but the original meaning was perverted by misuse over time.

I do consider most socialists gullible. There are some that are evil, but Hanlon's Razor applies.

What makes you a "liberal?" Obviously you're not an advocate of banning guns. While there may be "conservatives" who are anti-gun, and liberals, like you, who are "pro gun," certainly they wouldn't represent the preponderance in either camp. Surely you don't consider yourself to be aligned with the gun banners and anti self-defense crowd, who are predominately "liberal," so what do you mean when you call yourself a liberal? Do you vote for gun control advocates? You've mentioned anti-Obama comments --don't you think if the political winds were favorable he'd be taking away your right to carry and eventually your guns, and eliminating the right to self-defense as the collectivists in the UK have done? I'm just not sure how "liberal" anyone with a CHL can be --when I think liberal I think Pelosi, Schumer, Rangel, Daley, Franken, and Frank --is that the crowd you consider yourself part of? I'm skeptical because I usually find gun toting "liberals" to be something closer to libertarians than the bunch that has appropriated the liberal label these days.

Im a "individual liberties" liberal. I wear that label proudly, however I can see how I would fit into the libertarian camp at times.
