Definitely based more on emotion than fact and/or rational thought:

It won't be long until the bill reaches the hands of Gov. Rick Perry, a notorious gun holder...

Professors could become intimidated by gun toting students (grade inflation, anyone?)

Not to mention the tailgate parties that occur on campuses before football games and even the games themselves

Let's see...Rick Perry defended himself and his dog from a wild animal with his firearm. It's not like he open-carries and shoots wildly into the air every time a Republican proposal passes.

The horse-hockey about professors giving better grades because they're worried their students will shoot them if they don't is ludicrous...at best.

And, speaking of course to the lack of research or thinking that went on before/during the composition of this op-ed piece, the author really thinks there will be firearms carried into the school's non-firearm-centric sporting events by law abiding CHL holders?

This piece plays on the scariness of things others don't understand, rather then employing rational and coherent thought, facts, and knowledge. How sad for the author and anyone she convinces.

Too bad for the author, but unqualified and immature people are already handling guns. Think Columbine. You live in a fantasy world if you think those under 21 don't already break the laws regarding firearm purchase/ownership...oh, and the ones prohibiting burglary, theft, assault, rape, and murder.

By the way, as a CHL holder, I can already come onto and walk around your campus while armed. I just can't enter any of the buildings. Ergo, as a visitor taking in the sights around campus, I am legally protected (by myself, not the police, the government, or anyone else) than you are as a captive "audience" to someone inside of a building who intends to do you harm.

It does absolutely prove one thing though: US college admission standards are way too low. Anyone as dumb as the author of those ludicrous remarks shouldn't even qualify for a high school diploma.

...especially considering she is a Senior in college who is double-majoring in Journalism and French. Kinda makes you wonder about "higher education" and despair about the lack of critical thinking from the Journalism major.

I didn't read her screed. A "journalism" major, eh? That's a horse of another color. I may have to revise my opinion. To the extent that in the past journalism had anything to do with critical thinking those days are long gone. Modern American "journalists" are little more than socialist proselytizers and stenographers to power. I believe most aspiring young "journalists" are merely seeking a platform to promote their personal and political agendas so they can be imposed on those of us who lack their "enlightenment." If she's a journalist then she's a trained liar, so she may or may not be dumb. Of course, dumb and dishonest isn't out of the question, though a typical "journalist" knows virtually nothing about the real world, and these days, to be a "reporter," they don't have to --in fact, ignorance is best because facts tend to interfere with the agenda.

One of the things that bothers me most is school papers allowing writing like this. Way too many years ago, I started college as a journalism major at the University of Kansas. They had named the school after William Allen White and from the first course drilled into us that they would never allow yellow journalism. This was defined as any improperly researched, sensationalized, or biased writing.

I deeply regret that colleges allow this to occur and the teaching of journalism has sunk to such lows. I know many journalists have sunk as individuals, even though they were taught better back then. How low will they sink when they start like this?
