Another day or another Catastrophe?

Post by Beiruty »

On March 19, the moon will swing around Earth more closely than it has in the past 18 years, lighting up the night sky from just 221,567 miles (356,577 kilometers) away. On top of that, it will be full. And one astrologer believes it could inflict massive damage on the planet.
Richard Nolle, a noted astrologer who runs the website astropro.com, has famously termed the upcoming full moon at lunar perigee (the closest approach during its orbit) an "extreme supermoon."

Interesting... Even if it is true, it's nothing we should worry about IMO.

If it happens, it will happen whether we worry about it or not. One should not need to worry about it because one should be prepared at all times for an emergency.

It's quite true. It happens every few years. And we've made it through all of the other ones. That's certainly not an excuse to ignore basic preparedness... but the only thing I'll be worried about on the 19th is a cloudy sky that will keep me from seeing the cool big moon.

If this happens every 18 years, what has happened in the past? Certainly, there would be a record.

I don't seem to remember any mass extinctions or the world ending 18 years ago, but I'll keep an eye open just in case. ;-)

Scare tactics. People are even claiming the Japan quake was caused by the Supermoon even though it's almost at perigree right now :totap:

Worrying works! Over 99% of the things I've worried about over the years never happened.
