Time for a gun belt... any advice or suggestions?

Just for the record. I did not point out the spelling error. I run a business and couldn't care less how a person spells frugile . I have no idea how the quotes show me as being the spelling teacher.

Back on topic. I was looking at some gunbelts yesterday. Galco leather belts and 5.11 Operator belts. I didn't care for either one of them. I have a couple of Beltman bullhide belts and two Wilderness Instructor belts. I thought that both of my belts were much better than the Galco and 5.11 Tactical.

Back on topic. I was looking at some gunbelts yesterday. Galco leather belts and 5.11 Operator belts. I didn't care for either one of them. I have a couple of Beltman bullhide belts and two Wilderness Instructor belts. I thought that both of my belts were much better than the Galco and 5.11 Tactical.

Absolutely!!! But... the Beltman cost me quite a bit more money than the 5.11 I gave away. Beltman, by the way, resized my belt for me free after I lost 4 inches off my ample waist line. I don't know if they advertise such things but they sure as heck took care of me.

I went by Cabela's on Saturday to have a look at their Double Duty...
Random comments..

1. I still hate the buckle
2. The buckle is easily replaced ($$ for new buckle)
3. The snaps that hold the buckle and retainer are (IMHO) not sturdy. I would need to punch them out and add some Chicago screws for me to feel comfortable ($ for screws and labor)
4. The belt itself seems sturdy enough for a gun. Thickness is good, no rollover when squeezed. I didn't have a ruler, but, it seemed a bit under 1.5" width.. Might just have been my eyes..
5. When I folded the leather I could see it get "wavey" .. It looked as if the outer layer was actually a decorative layer laminated over a sturdier inner layer. I could not find any seams along the edges so I am not certain about this.. I can tell you only that I was not impressed with the quality of the leathers appearance.

So...

$39.95 + tax + punch + screws + New Buckle + "perceived lesser leather quality" = Not as good a value as a $70 beltmann or Crossbreed or similarly priced "Crafted"" gun belt.

FYI, The Wilderness provides excellent customer service. I recently found a small blemish on my new belt, and not only did they give me an RMA before I could even ask if they would fix it, but when I asked how long it would take since there is an IDPA coming up soon they offered that I use it in the upcoming match and then send it in since I might not get the replacement belt in time.

It was the kind of service that a customer remembers. And the belts are great.

actually it was a reference to "A Christmas Story" when the leg-lamp comes in and the box is labeled "Fragile"... the dad says "Fruh-gee-lee... must be Italian"
