Finally Mailed It In

Post by DustinB »

I took ElGato's class Oct 7th. Finally was able to mail it in today. Had to go through a bunch of stuff to release my own juvenile records to me. Got everything packed up, checked the checklist and every spot on every form at least 30 times and sent it certified mail with return receipt. Hopefully I will have it in 59 days or less. Might just get it for xmas, although I have a feeling my fingerprint cards will be sent back, my middle fingerprint for the left hand on the 4 finger spot is a little smudged.

Also got my holster and extra magazine in the mail today. Went with a Don Hume open top. Very nice so far, hugs the body pretty well. Holster is very tight though so I'm trying what someone on the XD forums said to try. Put the gun in 3 plastic grocery bags and leaving it holstered like that overnight. Anyone know of another way to losen up a leather holster? As it is now I can't even draw it at all. Have to take it off and tug it out.

My Don Hume was tight at first. I just kept it filled with its gun with no trash bags and it loosened up after a week or two.

"DustinB"...

I use a Don Hume IWB for my G23...

I used an old (clean and fresh) tube sock...

I remember it worked well, and didn't cause any problems after it help break the leather in...

The retention is still good today...And thats been...'bout 6 years...

I have other holsters for this pistol, but I find myself gravitating back to leather at times...

Give that a shot, Good luck...

For a leather holster, don't forget that actual draw and insert is important. The leather needs to get used to your specific handgun being removed and replaced...and the WAY you draw that handgun. If you tend to pull forward, for example, that will break-in a straight-up leather holster differently than a pull rearward at draw.

Got my PIN number in the mail today. Website shows "Processing Application".

Does this mean my fingerprints weren't rejected or is there still a possibility that they could be sent back? Hoping this means I am in the clear and just waiting on background checks to come back.

Called today and got in touch with the extremely nice lady working on my application. She told me my background checks had come back and she would have my license in the mail tomorrow. She even thanked me for including all the certified dispositions, even though some of them were't totally required. Said it made it alot easier for her.

So in a few days, hopefully, the mail lady will bring me a present. Might get it in time to be able to carry on the long drive to an event saturday, but probably not.

Just checked the site and it has been updated to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active". Should be here today or tomorrow.
