Better than Gold?

I was just curious - since the ATF study on Saiga 12 and the Sons of Guns show (Red Jacket Firearms)... So I looked up the Saiga 12 shotgun.

I was amazed at what I found. Some of the unconverted Saiga 12 were selling for $920 on Gunbroker. I bought mine a couple of years ago for $400. Are they serious?...

Once again this administration is selling firearms like hotcakes! What is your best guess for the future of high capacity semi automatic weapons?

I try to keep at least 5% of my net worth invested in "worse case" options that are targeted toward the potential collapse of our financial and political systems. I am skipping Gold and Silver entirely and going straight to guns, ammo, and canned food for this portion of my portfolio.

I still have 95% in such things as real estate, stocks, bonds, and pretty colored paper with pictures and numbers.

The 410s went up $100.00 this month from last month, 12s are pretty much sold out online, but I'm guessing that it may be like the "hi cap mag" buyouts, and they restocked now.

Gold and silver have a long history as currency , but commerce requires a minimum level of civilization that might not exist during a worst case scenario. Precious metals can be a good hedge against hyper inflation, particularly in a black market economy, so they deserve careful consideration by someone who (a) thinks the dollar will plummet and (b) the government will enforce rationing for goods and (c) they're willing to break the law by using the black market to get around rationing. Gold and silver are also reasonably portable, so they might be a good idea for someone who expects the US economy to collapse and plans to flee the country when that happens. However, for most of us, essentials (food, medicine, ammo, etc.) are a better hedge than gold, and also useful in the event of a hurricane or other natural disaster.
