I was talking to a lady who works at the DPS here, she said they arrested one CHL-er for murder this past year out near Midland. She said even they were surprised.

About one person with a CHL is convicted of murder a year. Maybe 20 homicide convictions since 1996 including manslaughter.
I would bet most of them were crimes of passion, someone murdering his wife, his wife's boyfriend, etc.
Two are still in the courts: the young man who shot a kid in a car that he thought was chasing him, and the guy who shot a fleeing intruder. You can find both of them in this forum. Having a CHL was not really relevant to either.

To my knowledge, and IMO, there has never been a conviction of a person who was reasonably defending himself in Texas. There have been only a handful of indictments. These issues are watched carefully.

I'm guessing *unlicensed* carrying of a weapon" by a CHL could occur if a CHL carried those throwing stars, brass knuckles, machete, or other prohibited carrying weapon other than a handgun of the type specified. Or, perhaps they had a revolver license and carried an LCP ? Florida has the concealed "weapons" permit, Texas restricts it to handgun of the type authorized.

Technically you have to carry the card for 46.15 to get you out of 46.02.RPB wrote:I'm guessing *unlicensed* carrying of a weapon" by a CHL could occur if a CHL carried those throwing stars, brass knuckles, machete, or other prohibited carrying weapon other than a handgun of the type specified.
