Why? It's pretty easy to see and it is posted at all the entrances that go directly into the mall (not through the anchor stores).

Grapevine PD has said on record that they WILL arrest someone for carrying past it. Why tempt the fates? I live in Grapevine, and I haven't been to the mall since some time in 2007 before I got my CHL. I can't stand malls anyway, but it is particularly galling when they don't want my business.

Besides, if you read the local papers for the police blotter - and I do - there are more auto break ins reported from that mall's parking lot than anywhere else in Grapevine. So your "secured" weapon in your car is NOT secured, should you choose to disarm and go in the mall anyway.

I looked for that picture of yours before posting above, but it shows up in the old thread as a "busted" PhotoBucket image.

That photo doesn't really capture the scale of that sign...
GV Mills has the biggest 30.06 signs I've seen anywhere...

Their prize?... They get to keep me and my business away.

It does look pretty big. I was wishing that there was a yardstick or ruler next to the sign to give some reference as to the size.

Once in a blue moon SWMBO wants to take a stroll through there. Interesting thing is that none of the store entrances (that I am aware of) on the outside (JC Penney's, for example) has a sign. Someone (not me) who enters through a store and on into the mall might find themselves in a sticky situation, since the mall itself is posted at the entrances. I did check at the mall entrance from the JC Penney's store and saw no sign there either.

Like others, I prefer to take my hard earned bucks somewhere else.

Do people still go to malls? Something that I was reading the other day (here) was saying something like 10% of malls are on the verge of failing.

This is a non-compliant 30.06 sign, and the old verbiage, in case you didn't catch that.

IF I go to that revolving door for storefronts masquerading as a "mall", it's only to visit the Nike Factory Store. I always enter through Off Saks, Penney's or the Polar Ice Rink and have never received any form of notice - written or verbal - that I can't carry there. If I ever see proper notice conspicuously displayed at an entrance that complies with the law during my visit, I'll return my firearm to the vehicle for that visit.

I see nothing in the law that states I have to circumnavigate the perimeter of every building I enter on a scavenger hunt for signs.

IANAL, I am not giving you advice, and YMMV.

Not only that but like Keith posted above, that sign is not legal anyway. That plus what the Grapevine PD aparently said means you will beat the rap, but possibly not the ride. They do have to see it first. Which has always made me wonder if they would fall back on failure to conceal as a way of making you miserable after beating the rap.

Apparently you haven't been to the Scarborough Faire in Waxahachie. Their 30.06 sign is burned onto a 15 foot tall, 6 foot wide wood sign. I'll have to get a picture of it the next time I'm out that way.

So, the one at Scarborough Fair is black text on brown wood? That doesn't sound very contrasting. ;-)

They've said they know the sign is non-compliant but will arrest anyway? That sounds like a good way to lose the taxpayers of Grapevine a lot of money in a court case.
