Should I just report my license as lost or stolen?

Post by ss1088 »

According to the website, my original license was mailed on January 31st or February 1st, however, I never received my original license. I was then required to wait 30 days before the DPS would agree to send out a new license.

I called the DPS on March 1st, and the man on the phone said he would go ahead and have another license sent to me. He also informed me that it would take 2-3 weeks to receive the new license after already having to wait 30 days. There was no confirmation that any steps were actually taken to do this. Three weeks later—no license has shown up in my mailbox. :waiting:

Although it would pain me to pay any more money to the state for this nonsense, I think it would be easier just to report the license as lost or stolen, as I would be able to have some kind of confirmation that the new license was actually ordered. Since it is likely that I may move in the next few months, I am sure I'll get the new one just in time to change my address again.

out of curiosity, did you verify that they have the correct address? Perhaps request (and probably pay for) certified mail?

Unless there was some kind of unforeseen data entry mistake, they have the correct address. I only know this because I did get a notification from them informing me that I could check my status online.

I finally got through on the phones, and the guy pretty much confirmed that the original was likely lost in that fire awile back. He said it was mailed on the 18th. I hope he is right.

I've had the same problem. Same original mail date as well. I was also told that my replacement was mailed on 18 Mar. I was told to wait 7-14 days for it to show up. I would have thought that with the technology and secure websites that you could just download your license like you can car insurance. At least do this till the original came in the mail.
