As a note, while the majority of the members of the Calenders Committee were co-authors on HB 750 and HB 681, committee member Rep. I just got an alert that HB 750: the committee report was filed with the committee coordinator.



Now, I'm just a goofy paramedic, but does that mean they're going to (hopefully) schedule it on the special calendar now?

In the house, all committee reports are referred to the committee coordinator, who forwards them to the printer. After being printed, a copy of the house committee report printing is placed in the post office box of each member of the house. The chief clerk then delivers a certified copy of the committee report to the appropriate calendars committee (the Committee on Calendars or the Committee on Local and Consent Calendars) for placement of the bill on a calendar for consideration by the full house. Calendars committees are given wide discretion in scheduling bills for floor consideration.

I'm impressed with both the CNN questions (and knowledge exhibited) and Sen Wentworth's performance. The only thing I wish he'd added was that 'local control' of a fundamental civil right is absurd - is Rodriguez okay with 'local control' denying free speak, freedom of religion, etc? Sheesh.

I'm all for as "local" as you can get instead of "stuck in the middle" ... why stop half-way?

Guns on campus headed to full Senate vote!
A bill to allow concealed handguns on college campuses in Texas was voted out of committee Thursday and is headed toward a vote in the full Senate.

State senators voting in favor included the committee's chairman, John Whitmire, D-Houston, and vice chair, Joan Huffman, R-Southside Place. The two senators who voted against the bill were Rodney Ellis, D-Houston, and Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-McAllen.

According to Mr Cotton, there is no Senate Calendars Committee. It simply takes a 2/3 vote to get on the floor.

Yup, no Senate calendar committee. I think that's why the Senate moves so much faster than the House--eg the Senate already passed their version of the parking lot bill, while the House version is still in Calendars.

I thought the Senate bills get placed in a queue after they make it through committee, to be considered in FIFO order, and it requires a 2/3 vote to consider a bill out of order.

GN- The Calendars committee is meeting in the Agricultural Museum to consider a calendar.

BN- It won't be on any other legislative feeds. We will have to wait until it's done and scheduled.

Just got off the phone with the Calendars' general office...Jennifer (staffer) suggested we call the authors' offices and have them encourage the calendars committee to get the bill placed on Calendars. She didn't know if would get placed in this meeting today or not. Lots of feedback for and against.

She also said they would be in session until June 1st.
