Maggiores Cedar Park "unlicensed changed to 51%"

Post by ralewis »

I've been going here since they opened about a year ago, and there used to be a "unlicensed possession" BLUE sign. In the past few months, seems that sign is gone, and there is a 51% sign now.

Their Liquor License isn't in a place that you can easily look at without being conspicuous, and I haven't done anything other than look at the TABC site (subordinate LB). I think it's a beer and wine place and seems to serve a lot of food vs. alcohol. Doesn't see like a typical 51% place to me...

Anyone have any info on the place? I"ll eventually call TABC, but I thought I'd ask here first.

Reading the description on their web sight makes me think they are a bar that serves pizza and sandwich type foods to munch on while your drinking and watching the game. Alcohol costs much more per serving than food and I could see a sports bar type place easily moving beyond 51% in alcohol sales. Think about it. A group of 4 buds buys a 25 dollar pizza and then consume 4 or 5 beers each while watching a sports event. The beers would be at least 51% of the total tab and probably more.

Certainly possible, and I'm not arguing whether it is or is not - just noticing it seems when I'm there it's more of a restaurant feel than a bar. I just noticed a sign change. I didn't carry there with the old sign because I usually did have a few beers while eating. I just thought it was odd the sign had changed especially given the typical mix of food and beer I see served there most days.

Re: the other thread running here about the TABC site providing this info.... That would be great actually and very helpful.

I am guessing the sign can change as the mix of food/alcohol does. Maybe they didn't think the alcohol would be more in revenue than the food. I bet they are happy as the alcohol is a real sweet margin sale.

This situation makes me realize I need to take a look at signage when going into a place. Even one I frequent often. Before reading this post, I really never gave much thought to a place changing status.

I would bet that they are 51%. If they were not they would probably have an "FB" license as well. It is to the owner's advantage to have and "FB" license as is eliminate the requirement under Texas State Law for them to hold a Surety Bond (which runs $5,000 and up).

It is possible that this establishment originally had a FB license and then switched over to a 51% business. The TABC would be place to find out.

I know how you feel. It seems that many "pizza joints" are like this. I have been to a couple of places to eat and it seemed like they sold more beer than food, but I checked and they had a FB license.
