Simple question

I once had a teacher who said that there are no "dumb" questions, but there are some "simple" questions, so here goes.

I park in my driveway, and I like to bring my car gun in for the night, and then back out the next morning. Is there any problem with carrying my holstered gun in my hand on the 15-20 foot walk across my front yard to / from my car? I own my house (not renting), and I never leave my property when doing this.

Does the answer change if I use the sidewalk in fron of my house instead of walking across my grass?

Obviously, once I get in my car, I conceal my gun and then drive off of my property. My only realistic concern is if a LEO saw me walking to my car with the weapon in hand (not concealed). I live at the end of a cul-de-sac and the local LEO's like to sit in a speed trap on the neighboring street where they can see my front yard should they happen to be looking.

I don't know your neighbors/neighborhood, I open carry in my yard every day getting my mail, doing yardwork, washing the car, weedeating, cleaning out sheds, transplanting stuff, just piddling around, sitting on the porch, taking the garbage out, etc etc, neighbors wave and are glad I'm outside in case a burglar hits their house while they run to the store or work.

I carry IWB holstered shirtless, everyone sees the grip, but never have it in my hand so it's never carried in a manner which is calculated to alarm (muzzle direction/not waved around etc)

IANAl, but think that is a question answered by a recent post. I would say that it is legal to do so whether or not you walk on a sidewalk or your front lawn. While I believe that it is legal, I can not predict what any particular LEO would think or do if he/she saw you. If you were wearing a hoody or sunglasses at night or ran away when you saw the police car it might arouse some suspicion.

I'm usually going to / from work wearing slacks and dress shirts, so that shouldn't be an issue.

To the other post, my neighbors all know I have guns in my house. Their kids play at my house, and my personal decision was to give them this information in case they had any concerns (not trying to cause a firestorm here on that topic). As far as I know, they have not seen me carrying my weapon, but I don't think they would have any issues if they did.

Sometimes, I do the same thing [carry from the house to the car and vice versa], but I am in the driveway using the side entrance to the house so I don't worry about it and haven't felt the need to discuss with my neighbors. Of course, my neighbors recognize me so they don't think that I am an intruder into the neighborhood.

You have no duty to conceal if you are on your own property. (Motor vehicle excluded) same as if you own a business, you can OC all day as long as you are on your own property. I used to work in a stop-n-rob and carried my 1911 OWB daily. LEO's came and went all day often time stopping to comment on what a fine choice I had made for a side arm.

The only issue would be someone seeing you and breaking into your car to take the gun. It isn't always the adult neighbors but maybe some of their kids that know you and where you frequent.

Thats why I take the gun with me when I go into the house at night. The only real risk is if they follow me to where I'm going and then break into my car. Of course, they would then also need to know that I keep an extra gun for the car in addition to my carry guns.
