Church Reciprocity Question

Post by WildBill »

I am invited to my cousin’s wedding next Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Arlen and I want to carry my 1911 inside the church during the wedding, but I am worried about the Church Reciprocity Law. I want to be legal, but I am not sure about the reciprocity laws regarding church carry. My CHL instructor said that the Baptists had reverse-reciprocity with the Methodists, but not vice versa. He said that if I were a Baptist I could carry in a Methodist church in addition to carrying in a Baptist Church, but since I am a Methodist, I can only carry in a Methodist church and not a Baptist one.

I am still a little confused and wanted some more clarification on this matter so I called the DPS in Austin and had a very short conversation with a DPS Trooper, but after I asked the question we were cut off so I never got an answer. When I tried to call back the phone just kept ringing.

I am taking my girlfriend to the wedding. She has a CHL too, but since she is Jewish and can’t carry on the Sabbath in a church, so I don’t know what to do. Since the church is in a bad section of town I don’t want to go to the wedding without being armed. Please can anybody help?

Reciprocity applies to states, not denominations.

The required 30.06 posting to prohibit concealed carry is strictly on an individual church basis.

Maybe you can get some advance notice, like at rehearsals, on whether the church is posted.

The general rule for Baptist churches is that Weddings are OK, and Baptisms have special rules only for the baptized or baptizer.
The special rules are:
For baptized and baptizer, you must either have a STAINLESS pistol or a Glock, preferably with Marine/maritime spring cups.
Special Communion rules for Feet-washing baptists are to have a secure holster so gun doesn't fall out when kneeling to wash other peoples' feet and don't spill the wine on yourself or your pistol.
If some idiot posted a 30.06 sign, you probably aren't at the Baptist church, look at the GPS in your car again.

Methodist are welcome to carry concealed in Baptist churches. Dad was Baptist, mom was Methodist before marriage, so we accept all kinds now

I believe the Talmud states a pistol designed by John Moses Browning is kosher on the Sabbath if, after firing 7 rounds, she rests. (Maimonides, Mishneh Torah, Laws of the Sabbath 2:23)

To accept CHL's of varying denominations is liberal ecumenicalism, and only practiced by those carrying the NIV version of the TPC. As a preacher from churches of Christ, we recognize no other churches CHL as valid. :tiphat:
