Texas senate bill SB 354(campus carry) passes committee.

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

I know what you mean I am going to be back in the lab working on my thesis and that usually involves being there very late at times. One time I needed to take a friend so she could finish up some work around 11pm and there was a strange guy just hanging out around the building without a shirt on and without shoes. He ended up leaving but we had already called the campus police while we waited in the car and they did respond in a reasonable time but those were still precious minutes that could have made a difference if there had been a real threat and my friend was alone.

Yep. I go to night school and get out at 9:20 pm and I have seen exactly one cop this whole semester. I would feel a whole lot better if I was armed walking back to my car.

Ever wonder why a San Antonio legislator introduced the Campus Carry Bill?

UT Austin has fewer armed robberies, but more assaults, about 1 every 2 days

It's hard to choose a college these days from those menus.

Hinojosa votes against bill despite authoring similar legislation in 2009
Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa (D-McAllen) voted with his constituents, rather than his personal beliefs, by opposing a “campus-carry” bill that passed the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice on Thursday, staffers said.
I won't call him nor write or fax him/his office at the moment until you advise to.

Now I understand why he said "no" so quietly .... he must not have wanted to say "no"

Perhaps he knew it would pass with his "No" vote so he went with his constituents so he could get re-elected. I guess that's the crazy world of politics.

It's similar to us needing for Harry Reed to be the Senate Majority leader in a back door sort of way. Since the US Senate is still in Democrat hands, as gun owners we need for Harry Reed to remain the Senate majority leader. As we all know, the current crop of democrats are very anti-gun but oddly enough, Harry Reed is pro gun and will help, albiet I don't trust how much, to block any crazy gun legislation. Had Senator Reed not been re-elected, the person that was to take over is very anti-gun and no, I don't remember who it would have been but I remember reading NRA stuff about the situation.

I wonder what he said about campus carry when he was campaigning. I don't necessarily want politicians to just go by whatever the majority of their district wants, but I would love for politicians to clearly lay out: This is what I stand for and this is what I will work on.

If they get elected by saying they'd support something, I feel like they should support it, whether the majority of their constituents want it or not. After all, if you've clearly stated your support for an issue, if it was that big of a deal to them they could have voted for the other guy.
