More services!!!

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

More services!!!

Post by Jasonw560 »

All these anti-s, especially on the UT campus, are crying out, "We need to make mental health services more available!!"

So, this:http://www.cmhc.utexas.edu/ is not enough?

24/7 access to a licensed counselor?

Links for group therapy and peer-to-peer counseling of all kinds?

Criminy.

Texas Tech's: http://www.depts.ttu.edu/scc/

A&M's: http://medicine.tamhsc.edu/clinical-dep ... ealth.html

From what I can tell, many of these are free or reduced fee for students.

Just like criminals won't follow the law, truly crazy people won't utilize these services.

I'm all for expanding available mental health services..

I'm also all for me not having to depend on the work of a therapist to keep me from being robbed, assaulted or attacked off campus. I didn't know counselors had magical campus powers that repelled all non counseled people from entering the campus intending harm. They're like, wizards or something! :biggrinjester:

Wait there's a problem here.

Those services are available for students, but not for non-students raping, robbing, kidnapping, assaulting, and carjacking on campus.

There needs to be
billboards and business card dispensers with info on how non-student criminals can get counseling services.

There needs to be phones every 10 feet surrounding the campus that go directly to Counseling services for when criminals feel they need help.

Non-student criminals seeking help must be assured that all information will remain confidential too about all prior and planned rapes, armed robberies, murders, etc etc etc .

Then they'll feel better about themselves, and not need to be criminals any more..

:iagree: The problem seems to be in the thinking that once your on campus, the only threats come from fellow students. It is af if some of these anti carry folks think a magic halo envelops everyone at some imaginary boundary line.

Thank you for expanding on the fallacy of that argument.

And I honestly believe most of the anti-s think that the 18, 19, and 20 year olds will automatically have access and do all sorts of bad things on campus. Because threats NEVER, EVER come from the outside into "the magic bubble".

This is why antis try to divert the topic from "self-defense/personal protection" to Mass shootings.

The mass shootings are rare, and committed by people who belong to that community

The often committed less-rare more violent rapes, robberies, dorm room invasions, carjackings, murders, aggravated assaults, vehicle burglaries to steal guns stored in cars, crimes are by non-students.

That's why Nevada's "Amanda Collins Self Defense Act" will probably fly right through getting passed.
The "focus" is on the girl who was raped on her way to her car where her gun was stored, by a rapist who raped and killed another student .... not Columbine/Virginia Tech like Woods/Goddard try to divert the topic to. I
s personal, to correct a broken system on a personal level, not to increase "campus safety" but allow the currently disallowed "personal protection/SELF defense"..

Craven Community College briefly locked down Monday
NEW BERN, N.C. - A brief scare at a local community college this morning.

http://www2.wnct.com/news/2011/apr/04/c ... ar-917992/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
the suspect left campus in the vehicle.

It's still unclear whether the suspect did have a gun.

The 3 people involved in the original dispute are taking the issue up with the magistrate. The other man involved with the dispute is a CCC student. The suspect is not a student.
I bet the armed dorm room invaders in these two incidents weren't students either

Nor Amanda Collins' rapist/murderer nor .... most ...

But, that's what cameras are for, to record the action for playback later on the News.

I ended my written testimony for the bills with this:

"All institutes of higher education in Texas aren't located in a "perfect utopia" on an ivory tower."

The antis sure think that's not true.
