Dallas Morning News
It is probably not news to anyone that the DMN is issuing disinformation in their pages, but on page 6A of today's paper there is an article by staff writer Wayne Slater regarding expansion of the places that state legislators can carry concealed in which he states "Under the state concealed weapons law, citizenss who take a course and pass a background check may carry concealed handguns in public, but not in bars, schools, sporting events, hospitals, amusement parks and churches."

Well, he is HALF right. It is amazing how many instructors I have heard still teach the same thing.SlickTX wrote:It is probably not news to anyone that the DMN is issuing disinformation in their pages, but on page 6A of today's paper there is an article by staff writer Wayne Slater regarding expansion of the places that state legislators can carry concealed in which he states "Under the state concealed weapons law, citizenss who take a course and pass a background check may carry concealed handguns in public, but not in bars, schools, sporting events, hospitals, amusement parks and churches."

Re: Dallas Morning News
I used to be a DMN subscriber. They appear to be on very shaky ground in many aspects, not just their news reporting. I really wanted to read the paper to keep abreast of local news events - I would never trust them to do unbiased reporting outside of Dallas. Even locally, the reported facts never seemed to match the real story.
After having cancelled my subscription over a year ago, they have started leaving newspapers in my driveway again. I guess they are getting really desperate. Maybe its time to write them another letter to stop the unwanted deliveries and remind them again about why I left.

I tried that. Canceled the "free" paper delivery online. They kept delivering the unwanted papers for about a year. Finally they stopped.chasfm11 wrote:I used to be a DMN subscriber. All newspapers are on very shaky ground. Annual exponential increases in the cost of newsprint alone has been slowly bleeding the industry to death for years.chasfm11 wrote:They appear to be on very shaky ground
Sounds like it's time to call the authorities and have then cited and fined for litteringchasfm11 wrote:After having cancelled my subscription over a year ago, they have started leaving newspapers in my driveway again. Mr. Slater has an email in his in-box from me correcting his misstatement.

...sucks...oh, sorry, I thought it was a fill-in-the-blank question...
...DMN is no worse but no better than most newspapers...leaning more towards anti-gun and being sarcastic and snide when reporting gun topics...the "mainstream media" just doesn't live down where we do...and don't understand why we want our guns...I don't buy it nor advertise in it...and as far as being accurate in what they print...that's no longer a requirement for newspapers...as long as it supports the paper's or the writer's opinion...

Re: Dallas Morning News
I've tried to write letters to "correct" their mis-statements of fact, and actually got a couple printed. However they have not printed anything from me in a couple of years.

That has been going around for a while. I've seen that exact list in at least a dozen articles. It is identical in all. Looks to me someone published it and everyone else has just copied and pasted it.

Re: Dallas Morning News
Are you suggesting that a DMN reporter would simply repeat someone else's lies without doing any fact checking? I'm aghast. Next you will probablly tell me that there is no Easter Bunny.JJVP wrote:That has been going around for a while. I've seen that exact list in at least a dozen articles. It is identical in all. Re: Dallas Morning News
Their source for the information about where you can't carry probably came from the police department. I can't tell you how many times I have heard officers who work church security claim that it is illegal to carry in church.
