Bye Stormy... Sleep well.

Post by E.Marquez »

To no one in particular:
Stormy.. Thanks for bringing a smile to our face from the start, to the last day.
The rattler that got you, could have gotten one of your humans. Today was not the first time you tangled with one, but it was your last. Sleep..pup.. your leg no longer hurts, you no longer limp when you get up.. Sprocket misses you already.

The Story Of Miss Storm
There was a nice winter storm brewing, lots of wind and rain.. I was sitting at the breakfast table at about 0400 before going to work.
Just outside the breakfast nook which is fully glassed in.. is a small walk way and then a hedge row. I heard some weird flapping sounds.. but being dark could not see anything outside the windows. ,, Heard the flapping sound again.. Went to the front door.. And there was a large dog staring at me, he shook his head again to rid himself of water, and I found my flapping sound. He walked inside, past me, to the back door.. like he had lived here all his life.. I opened the door, and he went in to our back yard, laid down on the porch out of the rain.

My son walked him around after school and found the owner.. Few words were exchanged and my son found out, Mom and Dad (Roscoe) had a litter of pups last night during the storm……….. When I went to go to work the next morning, as I sat at the table enjoying my morning coffee.. staring at me in the window was Roscoe.. Opened the door, he came in, had a drink of water and went to the back door, barked once.. and I let him out.
Wife took him home later in the day… found the pups un cared for in the back yard, owner was gone for the weekend.. Told the folks next door, to throw some food over the fence while he was gone.

Needless to say, the wife took on the job of caring for the pups that weekend.. Roscoe came over every morning, we took him home every evening.. Three weeks later, owner again gone.. My wife brought a pup home claiming, while we could not save um all…. She was going to have a home. We called the owner told him his dogs and pups were fine and not to worry about the missing one.. she would be back in the evening, but gone several times each day till 5 weeks old, then we would be her new companions.

Thus Storm came in to our family. Born in a storm, her father came to get us, when no one at home would help… Or something like that…..That’s my story and I’m sticking to it

I can't see your pictures, but you painted such a beautiful one with your words that they're only secondary. The love and joy she brought to your family is palpable. I'm sorry she was gone so soon, but I know her memory will live on.

More then anything today.. I am reminded why I like dogs more then most humans.. Stormy cuddled and licked my face, as she laid in pain.. Having just made the decision to put her to sleep, she showed me unlimited affection to the last breath.

I 100% agree with you bronco, if you see the dog in my avatar, we put him to sleep 2 1/2 years ago, and to his last, he loved us and showed that trying to wag his tail and love on us.

Same with my Jenny that we had to put to sleep 3 weeks ago. Wagged her tail when she saw us for the last time. She couldn't lick because she was gasping for air.

You just can't take away the pain of losing a cherished dog. When we adopted Trapper last Saturday, it wasn't to replace Jenny. There was only one Jenny, and we had a Jenny shaped hole in our hearts. Trapper can't fill that hole right off the bat. But, he began pretty quick to dig himself a Trapper shaped hole in our hearts, and he fills that one admirably. Over time, the sharper edges of the Jenny shaped hole are being worn smooth. The hole is still there, but the pain is easier to bear. I still look for her on our bed every time I walk into our bedroom. But when I look for Jenny, I find Trapper... ...and that's OK with me.

bronco78, God bless you and your family. Sounds like Stormy was a great dog. Good for you all for taking him in and giving him a good home. A better home than he would have had from the cretin that abandoned him. He's resting easy now.

I hate to hear about someone losing a good dog. I am so sorry for your loss. You will see her again at Piddlers Green on this side of the Rainbow Bridge.

I am heart broken at the loss of your dog.

Dogs are so special to everyone who has one.

I am tearing as I write this.

Take care. She will always be here.

Please accept my condolences. Your life is richer for Stormy having shared it with you. May her memory be a blessing.

The Starfish

Author Unknown

One child came upon another child on the beach one day. The second child was walking along, looking down, then every few feet would bend down, pick somehting up out of the sand, and toss it into the ocean. The first child asked what kind of game this was.

The second child replied, "I'm saving starfish."

The first child was incredulous. "Are you kidding? There are too many! What are you going to do? Spend all day and all night out here, tossing starfish back into the ocean? You'll never save them all. And anyway, in the grand scheme of life, they're just starfish. It doesn't matter if they live or die."

The second child scooped another starfish up from the sand, considered it briefly, then hurled it into the ocean.

"It mattered to that one."

The wife is off to bed..........crying, as there is a furry warm body missing from her side of the bed.... The loving soul that keeps her company when I'm on the other side of the world.........The pup that is there at the start of each night even when I'm home,,,, just to say..."I'm here for you if he's not"
