Realtors...got a question for you

Post by Texas Size 11 »

If I was your client and you were showing me houses, would you recommend I not carry when viewing properties?

Just curious.

Why do you think realtors with CHLs might not want their clients to carry when looking at houses? I'm curious what part of it you think might be problematic.

Why would the agent even ask? Concealed is concealed...or did you ask?

OG is right. This is a don't ask, don't tell situation unless you already know the Realtor previously and know he/she is OK with carrying, perhaps even carries him/herself. It's nobody's business but you and a LEO acting within scope of his authority whether you're carrying at any given time.

Personally, as a Realtor, I carry 24/7 and I DO NOT tell my clients, other Realtors, or property owners that I am carrying. It's none of their business.

I've had one client who I know was carrying and he knew I was carrying ... we met on this forum and he's a member here. Other than that, none of my clients know I carry.

Did your Realtor ask you and did you tell him/her? Just like any other business, if a Realtor asks you not to carry in their car you must respect that (and I'd recommend you respect it by ceasing to do business with them and finding another Realtor who minds their own business and doesn't ask such questions). Also, I guess there is some possibility that you could encounter a property that is posted 30.06 or something while out with a Realtor. At that point, for instance you're going to a restaurant that is posted, you'd have to come clean to the Realtor that you cannot enter that premises (or make up a good reason why you don't want to eat there on the spot). This did happen to me once when I was showing houses to some prospective clients. They wanted to grab a bite in a smaller town with not many eating choices. The one they picked was a bar/happy hour place that served sandwiches. As we walked in and I saw the sign, I just said "Oops, I forgot something. Grab a table and I'll be right there", put my gun in my car, and went on inside. If I was a client in that situation riding in the Realtor's car, then I probably have to reveal.

But this is all just hypotheticals. The issue really should not come up and, other than personal bias, a Realtor has no business telling you when/where to exercise your rights.

Oh no, I did not ask. I carry everywhere I go, so it is not a big deal to me. I was just wondering if there is some type of etiquette thing when showing houses.

Maybe we should disclose when we buy new or used cars. i really don't understand what the question is rooted in. Frankly it is no one's business if I am legally carrying. I carry where I am legally allowed to carry. :headscratch
