CA High schools-Handguns and Havoc on Los Angeles Campuses

Post by RPB »

Just a long article barely worth reading about high schools in California and guns and gangs at schools

Interesting parts are interviews with gang members something like (my paraphrase) ...In the olden days we gangsters all brought them to school for protection, but didn't use them there but needed them for protection on the way home ... but at school now just any nut not even in a gang brings them and shoots up the place, so the gangsters still need them and carry the guns to school.

I got tired of long responses containing facts, so ... All I could comment in this Cailifornia article was
Guns can not be on campuses, especially in California, I know .. I saw a sign that said it was a gun-free zone.... so I know.
I think on that article, pointing out the obvious lack of obedience people give to a sign (and futility of gun-restricting laws and rules) was best.

The sad part is that those who continue to push for more and more restrictions on guns will not acknowledge that the existing restrictions on guns are being ignored. It is as if the next law passed will have a magic wand in it that will make people suddenly start obeying the law.

The saying "you cannot legislate morality" is attributed to R.M. MacIver in 1926. The morality associated with gangs in the schools is the root of the problems with guns in LA/CA and guns are simply one symptom. It is interesting to see in the article about how quickly the students in the schools adapted to metal detectors and were still able to get guns in to the buildings. It is unfortunate that the person who related that part of the story isn't called to testify at hearings where some of the current day anti gun advocates are proposing more magic wands.

Yeah
Retired LAUSD police officer Charles Wilson recalls that scanning youths for weapons with metal detectors was “a joke.”

metal detectors provide false hope
But thank goodness the signs work....when you can find one.

Yep, my bad. Here I was talking about magic wands and I should have said magic signs. Everyone knows that signs are magic and will immediately bring the most recalcitrant individual into compliance. Just look at how well the magic speed limit signs work on our roads. :evil2:

None of that matters to the "anti" crowd. The bottom line is that they want everyone to be a criminal that has anything to do with firearms and is not an LEO or a Service-member serving overseas.

I'm not sure that some of the antis that I've talked would exempt overseas deployment. Whether they are hold overs from the Viet Nam era thinking or simply following the same thought pattern, they blame all wars on our military. If you've ever run into the Code Pink crowd, you know exactly what I mean.
