Full Court Press for SB 354

Post by Jasonw560 »

Okay, it appears that Wentworth had the 22 votes initially to pass it on Friday, but at the 11th hour, Gallegos and Lucio once again bailed. So, we need a full court press to get them on board. This bill, from what I was told, is on "life suport".

So get your faxes, emals, and phones ready to call Sens. Lucio and Gallegos.

Get your families, friends, relatives, neighbors, anybody you know to call in support.

Just got off the phone with Senator Lucio's office.

We got into a little discussion, she brought up the Santa Gertrudis Academy, and said it's against federal law to allow guns on elementary and HS campuses. I then politely corrected the aide on the Gun Free Schools Act.

She then said, "Well, the Senator doesn't feel safe having guns around elementary, jr. high, and high school students".

So, I said (non-confrontaional like), "So the Senator thinks that those lives are not as important as college kids' lives?" :evil2:

After she said, "That's not what I said", I politely told her that is what it sounds like. I then brought up the fact that those kids are the ones who need this protection the most, and (forgive me, I couldn't help myself) we have seen that at Columbine. I then brought up Pearl, MS, and the asst. principal who retrieved a gun from his car and held a gunman at bay.

The slightest pause, then she then took my name and city, and said she would register me in favor of the bill.
