Taurus 1911b or SA custom loaded question

Post by Shu »

Ok i have a question im debating on which gun to get.

I really want a 4inch barrel 1911sa. But im also looking that the taurus 5 inch barrel here is my confusion

It says the overall length of the Taurus (5 inch barrel) Is 6.5'' and the Loaded Champion Lightweight Springfield (4inch Barrel) is 7.5 overall length
What does this mean does this mean the taurus is smaller if it is I will take it

Easy enough. I just measured both of them.

The 7.5" for the Champion is from the rear of the grip safety.

The same measurement for the PT1911 is 8 3/4"

I actually think the Taurus is most likely to be malfunction free right out of the box and has a bunch of features.

But Springfield has a great service department and will bend over backwards making it right if you have problems with the Champion.

I carry IWB and do not notice the difference in length.

I'm not fast enough that I'm going to 'clear leather' any faster with the 4"

There might be some methods of carry where the 4" would be advantageous.

I have two 4" and three 5". The Taurus is the one I regularly carry.

Set aside some funds for a GOOD holster. It will make all the difference in comfort. There will be different opinions here as what to get. They all have merit. I personally use Tucker's Answer or Texas Heritage.

Santa is getting me the 4" barrel Springfield 1911.
I'm looking forward to shooting it.
(It's wrapped & under the tree, so I can't sneak it out while Santa is at work.)

That's a great one and one of the most popular.

When you get discouraged at the long lead time they quote you, go to their list of dealers. They will probably have one for a 1911. You'll pay some extra, but it might be worth it.

Or, Tucker has a much shorter turnaround.

I would suggest watching the following forum:

http://forum.m1911.org/forumdisplay.php?f=115

That is the Taurus forum and there is frequent discussion. You will probably see news there as soon as it is known.

I would not expect the SS compact anytime soon. From what I've read, the stainless full size is next to be released. I saw January mentioned for it.

This is the link to Tucker's IWB holsters:

I would maybe give the Texas Heritage a slight comfort edge over the Answer. They are both so comfortable, you may forget you're wearing it.

The edge goes to the Answer when it comes to one handed reholstering.

I called Milt Sparks and got a Versa Max II to fit a full-size 1911, with less than a one-week turnaround.

Have to admit, I'd asked "Do you have anything available in your "seconds" bin that will fit my Colt?" It's got a few minor "imperfections" in the staining on the leather that made it "unacceptable" as a "factory first" hoster, but they not only shipped it immediately, they knocked $10 off the price. I don't worry about it, since it's concealed anyway!

Hey, it's worth it to ask if they've got anything in the bargain bin.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me
