Peanuts for You?

Post by WildBill »

I thought this was interesting that there is a law forbidding the Department of Transportation from restricting the serving of peanuts aboard aircraft unless a peer-reviewed study determines that serving of peanuts causes severe reactions among airline passengers.

The peanut farmers must have a very good lobby.

peer-reviewed study instead of a passenger poll?

What if ............ someone didn't know they were allergic?
What if ............ they got ill and someone tried to Heimlich them and broke a rib that pierced their heart?
What if ............ dozens of well-meaning people rushed to help and someone got trampled to death in the crossfire, I mean stampede?
What if a dozen people with allergies all gave the victim a shot with their Epi-pens all at once overdosing him?
I think they should just ask the doctors who patrol the airplanes; I'd "feel safer" with more better trained doctors aboard.
(If none are aboard, the pilot can radio ahead to the next airport and they'd have a pretty good "response time" .... maybe.)

Even if the government can't ban peanuts, that doesn't mean that the airlines will serve them. I am sure for liability reasons they wont go back anymore anyways. Not to mention the cost of delaying a flight/making an emergency landing, and the associated costs with ground crew at the place where they had to make the emergency landing. Plus additional fuel costs, plus legal defense.

I am glad that they don't serve peanuts any more. Those huge bags that they passed out just filled me up.

The tiny bags of pretzels give me peanuts envy.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.
