Maybe you guys down in Houston just need a couple more billion dollar light rail projects.
I go to my mother's run-down neighborhood on the north-side every Sunday for lunch and see the construction going on and just shake my head. Busses pass down my mother's street slamming their wheels in potholes big enough to rattle the dishes of her shelves and every bus is practically empty.
There are bicycle lanes SQUEEZED along the edges of Crosstimbers from one end to the other - I call them suicide lanes.
And I can never find one single solitary sole that voted for or supports the idea of any of it. And I mean no one. As a point of curiosity, does anyone here on these boards think we should be funneling money into these endeavors while firing police officers, firefighters and yes both of the school teachers in my family are now out of work.
You guys down in Houston are NOT being represented. You are having ridiculous agendas and programs that you have absolutely no use for shoved down your throats at the expense of much needed services and at the cost of teachers, firefighters, and police officers.
By God whenever you get it figured out please go vote them out and clean house.
Good luck.

If people in Houston shoot criminals more often, I hope the Houston PD won't waste too much of their limited time persecuting good guys who defend themselves.

So we have a hiccup in the economy and the property tax income stays level for two years (mine is actually proposed to go up 2% this year) And now the city has a crisis.
That's what happened nationwide over the last decade. We had a good decade economically, with tax receipts growing much faster than inflation. However, states and localities used that money to expand their services rather than save it for a rainy day. Now that that rainy day has come, they have no reserves and must cut back.
