Busted by the boss at work!

Post by CCreyeder »

.... well, sorta lol...

Today, during a lull in the day, my boss motions for me to step into his office. He asked me if I had my CHL.... I kinda hem and haw and never really answered... he then said the reason he asked was that he was going to get his and if I wanted, he would pay for the class if I wanted to get mine as well.. "uhh.. actually," I answered "I've already got mine" lol... Then, we started talking about good carry options, if I could feel it, was it heavy, etc.. He never came out and asked me point blank if I was carrying and I didnt volunteer... ... it was kind of humorous. I guess my crossbreed supertuck was doing it's job. Tucked in long sleeve shirt and tie and have been carrying everyday since I recieved my plastic 2 weeks ago.

I've never been too worried about carrying at work. First of all, all the employee hand book does not have the specific 30.06 wording, just the generic stuff about unlawful dangerous weapons yada yada yada. Second, I am fairly high up the food chain and dont THINK if would be summarily fired. And, best of all, the boss and I go out shooting together all the time, so I knew he was cool with guns. Still, it is a big company and I have been on a strict "Dont ask, dont tell" with EVERYONE, not only at work, but with friends as well.

Keep in mind that a company policy does not have to meet 30.06 to be enforceable for disciplinary purposes. However, if the policy actually says "unlawful," then you should be good because your concealed carry is not unlawful.

A couple of months before I got my CHL the boss and I were talking about getting CHL's on the way back from a job site visit. Since then I have recieved mine but I'm fairly certain he has not. I have not informed him that I have mine but if he ever asked I would tell him "Yes, I got it back in ........." I would never volunteer the information though.

Our company since February, has put on 2 CHL classes, for a total of 41 people (employees, family and friends)
Our company paid all but $50 of the class fee, so a total of probably $2000 they paid.

Funny though, we still can't carry at work.... :nono:

Why would they do all that and not allow you to carry? Or do they expect everyone to carry, but keep it quiet, so they can CYA for legal and insurance reasons?

That's crazy. Have they given any reason why not?

they haven't given a reason
I think however that the company in general is against carrying on site (we are a chemical company and they are afraid (probably) of a discharge near a chemical tank), however the HR Manager used part of his arbitrary annual budget to pay for the course

Remember in Texas they do not need a reason to terminate you. concealed is always concealed. My immediate boss knows I have a CHL however I am always carefull to emphasis that I never carry to work!.
My company not only has a rule against carrying but also in the car. They claim to have the right to serch your car which I am pretty sure is illegal but will also fire you if you refuse the search. After I get home at end of day I carry anytime I am going out.

My boss is a lot like that. But he's gone the extra mile and given me the green light for carry at work.
I gave him a CHL course as a Christmas gift this past Christmas. His dad gave him a Colt 1911.
