my funds are presently a lil on the low side because:
A) Christmas gifts
b) New (FIRST!!!!!) Gun: Kahr PM9
c) SmartCarry holster
d) pre-pay on January CHL class
I'm going to write a $140 personal check on Monday the 8th when it all gets mailed in. Now, I won't necessarily have $140 in my account that DAY (which doesn't matter), but I was wondering how soon to expect the check to get cashed by the state.
What's your story? I'm financially responsible and can maintain a positive balance easily, but I'm just wondering how long one has to make sure the check doesn't bounce just when they get around to you!
Thanks guys!

In Texas, we have the death penalty and we use it. In Texas, if you kill somebody we're gonna kill you back.

There is no way to know. It all depends on the speed of the mail and how many apps are in front of yours. All I can tell you is that when they open your packet that the check will be processed immediately.
If I were in your position, I'd just wait to mail it until the money was in the bank to cover it. Things happen that are beyond our control all the time and it's better to be safe than sorry imho.

I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

DPS is NOT an outfit where a rubber check is taken lightly. If any doubt whatsoever, I'd suggest a money order.

DPS told us in the August CHL Instructor course that anyone who bounces a check will be on "certified funds only" status the rest of their lives. I agree, if there is any doubt, send a cashier's check.Greybeard wrote:DPS is NOT an outfit where a rubber check is taken lightly. If any doubt whatsoever, I'd suggest a money order.

Go to Albertsons and get a money order. it's just a few cents.
DPS will not process your paperwork until the check completely clears (not the 2 day funds credit, the actual 2+ week clearing time.)

money orders are too cheap to risk it. 49 cents at 7-11. Some folks prefer postal m.o. (from the post office). They are treated as cash by a lot of folks that don't even trust regular money orders.
