When I'm representing the company or acting on the company's behalf (customer visitations, sales, etc), I view that as "working" for the company and I don't carry.
If I'm out for training, that's personal development for the company, but I am not "working", and I carry.

In both cases, once I've returned to the hotel, I'm on my own time, and carry.
That's great, but if the company disagrees with you they can still fire you.

I've had the same situation several times. Last trip was to Memphis, which is competing with Detroit in some areas.
On those trips when travel arrangements are separate, I've carried. When I go alone, I carry. When I have to travel with a co-worker I don't carry.
I don't like it, but the risk even in a high-crime area is pretty small in my case. When we leave the hotel we go in groups of at least 4, and I don't stay out about 9:00 or so.

I have my first company trip since getting my CHL coming up and am working on the same questions. There is no policy regarding carrying while traveling - just a no guns on campus policy. It is a conference in Orlando and I am thinking that if I manage to not fly with co-workers, then I will probably carry. I haven't checked into the rules for the Orlando Convention Center yet, but at least I could have it in the hotel.

Florida is the original CHL state, so it's real gun-friendly.
there are some important differences in their laws, so read up.
As a general rule, hotels have no gun restrictions, and that usually carries to convention centers.

Silly question, i guess, you don't have to declare at the time of ticket purchase- correct? So I would presume that the airfare receipt will not have any 'firearm' markings or anything on it right?

That's correct. I have never checked in a gun. I don't know if they have a special baggage claim ticket, but it wouldn't be on your ticket.

Unless you want to get your company's discount on "lost handgun insurance". :smilelol5:

I have seen no tags anywhere when I carry and fly.

In the OP's case, I would not carry on the trip. In my case, only our offices were no-carry, so I always carried on domestic trips, but not overseas.
