Squeaky New Holster

Post by terryg »

I finally picked up another OWB holster to try for my SR9c. The DeSantis Mini Slide Holster. So far my first impressions are ok - its is pretty good looking. The SR9c has a LCI :grumble which comes close to lining up with the seam of the holster. I have to put a little clockwise rotational pressure on the gun while inserting it to get it to clear just so.

I also notice that it is really squeaky. Is that normal for an all leather holster? Will it get quieter with time?

It does make a bigger bump than my Durham IWB, of course, but it doesn't seem too bad - nothing like the Fobus Paddle Holster I had tried.

Other than that, it is too early to pass judgement.

I didn't realize Desantis was using mouse hides to make their holsters from. Guess it makes sense for mouse guns though. :biggrinjester:

I have never had a problem with a squeeky holster. Shoes yes, holsters no. I have a new Kramer leather holster and the leather is a hard as Kydex. I noticed that if I bumped against something it would make a little thumping noise.

I own a Desantis holster that fits a pistol I no longer own. It is a well made product.

I've had a couple that squeaked when new...usually from where the belt goes through the slots.
They eventually stopped after the friction points developed some wear. Give it time to break
in and it should be fine.

In the meantime, carry around a boom-box and no one will notice the holster. :biggrinjester:

My tucker heritage makes me sound very old when I bend.... creaky - it is not new, is IWB, but I have never had anyone but me really notice. It is so comfy - I can wear it all day with my 9c

Put some leather conditioner on it and it should make it go away. You may have to reapply periodically, but it should get better over time as it starts to wear.

The only holsters I have that squeak are horsehide, that is why I prefer cowhide. Once broken in they should quiet down a bit.

I had a similar problem, dusted a little baby powder on the holster where it made contact with the belt and it's been fine since...
hope it works for you.
