Just found my CDNN catalog, Volume 2011-1. It lists the PS90 in Black or OD Green for $1297, with 5 free 50 round mags. As shipwreck said, I don't know if they have any left.

The soft recoil lets me get a lot of rounds on target very fast. There are a number of high capacity .45s and .40s out there which will carry nearly as many rounds, but, at least for me, they are much harder to keep on target during rapid fire. IMO, this gun fills a specific niche. If you are worried about a mugger, a snubby will take care of you and be easier to carry, but if you can't have a carbine and may run into guys with carbines, this pistol is a good companion.

I may be wrong on this but I would be careful if using this as a ccw. Doesn't the state of Texas state minimum of. 32 caliber or is that just for range qualifications. As many have stated before I am not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV. That was just my understanding. If I am wrong someone correct me

per dps
You may carry any type of legal, concealed handgun you are quali¬fied to use. If you wish to carry a semi-automatic weapon, you must complete your firing range test with a semi-automatic. If you do not wish to carry a semi-automatic, you may test with a revolver. You must demonstrate proficiency with a handgun of .32 calibers or above to qualify for a concealed handgun license.

the way I read this is once you qualify, it doesn't matter what you carry so long as its legal and a handgun and you have the "SA" designation on your license it would be ok to carry. IANAL

The caliber restriction concerns the CHL proficiency test only. GC §411.188 is the only section in the pertinent Government Code that mentions caliber. You are free to carry anything from a .17 HMR up to a .500 S&W.

'Course, IANAL either... ;-)

I'd take a .17 HMR over a .25 ACP any day. It may be a tiny round, but as, essentially, a necked-down .22 Magnum, it can send a 20 gr. bullet at 2,350 fps (about the same velocity as the 5.7x28 SS190 and SS195LF) for 250 ft/lbs of muzzle energy. A 45 grain .25 ACP generates about 815 fps and a less-than-impressive 66 ft/lbs of energy. Even your basic .22 LR is double that.

For me, the .25 ACP is the "don't use it unless you wanna make 'em angry" round.

Personally I'd prefer to use my official Boy Scout pocket knife over using a 25 auto or maybe one of those old ceramic ashtrays or another improvised tool for self defense.

In regards to my previous post I just assumed that because you had to qualify with 32 or above that was also the minimum caliber for carry... spoke to my chl instructor and he called that a "gray area" so I would hate to be the test case if it came to that, even though the 5.7 packs more punch than a 32

I think that many times we get very caught up in bullet size and weight as being most crucial to effectively stop a threat. I will not pretend to be an expert, but it seems to me that penetration is the most vital factor. Our armed forces use a standard caliber that is scarcely larger than .22 but engineered into a highly effective carbine round. While I love .45 ACP and it's effectiveness cannot be questioned, I see the 5.7x28 as a highly effective penetrator which has the bonus of low recoil and high capacity magazines. It is certainly not for everyone but I find it to be one of the most compelling and promising modern loads. While I can't see it as a replacement to any of our traditional calibers, I think it fits into the wheel by addressing some specific needs, particularly in a military or police environment.

Not a grey area. No where is a minimum caliber ever stated or even implied.

the more I learn about this round, the more I like it. I got to fire a suppressed AR-57 & even with supersonic ammo, it was super quiet & very soft shooting!

Would it be sacrilege to want a 1911 with this round? A double stack 5.7x28 magazine should be about as thick as a single stack .45ACP. It will need to be longer by a third of an inch which would likely make the grip feel a lot like that of a Desert Eagle. Unfortunately, those don't feel very comfortable in my hand... So, maybe nevermind :banghead:

It's been a while since I went to the range. Shot my 5.7 last, decided to empty the entire magazine as fast as I could. Fired 20 into a 10" paper dinner plate at 15 yards, easy as pie. Wish I could to that with my other guns. Wish they made a model I could conceal carry.

I think someone might be making one. I dunno, I just remember hearing that a few other companies are starting to make handguns in that caliber.
