I'm done having stuff stolen out of my front yard. First my landscaping, and now my landscaping lighting. Time for a camera system.
I'm not looking to spend a fortune, and have been looking at two different systems.

and

Does anyone have any experience with either of these brands or systems? Any alternatives under $400?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Video Security Systems?
Watch the specs.
Those packages have cheap cameras.
Cheap cameras get you fuzzy pictures.
Try gadspot.com for good quality cams and DVR's. The DVR's are alomst too cheap.
The image does no good if the BG is barely discernable.
I worked at a place with one of the cheap packages installed.
If one of our empoyees was in the frame you would know who it was.
But if it captured some one unknown you would have had a really hard time identifying him.
$400 is probably too cheap for good quality images.
Depends on the number of cameras though.

I know it's not perfect, but this is quality I'd consider decent enough.

Cheap cameras are basically useless at night. As far as specs you want at least a 1/3rd inch Sony Image device, 560 tv lines, etc...
It really takes a lot of research to make sure you get something you can actually use.

I can't see anything that I can Identify.
If they were from your neighborhood you could probably identify them.
But what if they are friends of neighbors?
If some one is swiping stuff from your yard they probably are not from your neighborhood and an image of that quality wouldn't help at all.

The system I use is listed a few posts down the thread with links to the camera and software. Total package for one camera (on sale) and software was a little over $100. Camera is wireless with an IP address, so no need to cable everything up.
