new job
So i might be working for a new company in a few weeks. I was reading through their policy manual about chl. They allow you to carry into the building IF you have 1,000,000 personal liability insurance policy. BUT you are not allowed to use your gun to defend yourself or anyone else on the company premesis. So whats the point? This is a clinic and I havent see any 30.06 sign or anything.
Re: new job
That's interesting. I never heard of a policy like that. I don't think that it would cost that much to get the insurance. If you did have to defend yourself, it would be worth every cent.alvins wrote:So i might be working for a new company in a few weeks. I was reading through their policy manual about chl. so basically, their policy says, if you are caught carrying with that insurance, they can fire you.
Still doesn't make it illegal, unless they post the 30.06 on the building, in the employee handbook or other documentation that you are given, or they give you verbal notice that you can't carry.
So the choice, carry and possibly get fired, don't carry, or get the $1MM insurance

Re: new job
yea but the policy says you are not allowed to display or use your firearm on their property for any reason. thats the wierd part.
Re: new job
Sounds like a no-brainer to me. Rather be fired than the alternative.

Re: new job
Maybe that is a middle ground to allow you to have it in transit on your way to work and back? That's the only rationale I can think of.alvins wrote:yea but the policy says you are not allowed to display or use your firearm on their property for any reason. thats the wierd part.

It means they don't want you to intervene if a criminal attacks a member of management.alvins wrote:yea but the policy says you are not allowed to display or use your firearm on their property for any reason. thats the wierd part.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

Re: new job
I assume that they are refering to an umbrella policy. you can call whoever does your homeowners and or car insurance and get a policy. most require you to have a 300/500k+ car insurance poilicy and a few other things. The price is very reasonable iirc. I have one do to the dogs.
Re: new job
We have one too. Pretty reasonable.
Their policy is a little strange, though. OK to carry as long as you are insured? Prohibitions against use under basically any circumstances? To be honest, if the choice is my life or my job, my life wins hands down. "My apologies, Mr. Employer, but rather than being shot dead I stopped the threat. I guess I'll go on home after everyone thanks me for saving them, even though I was just saving myself.....send my last paycheck to this address: XXXXX"
Regarding the part about not displaying it, I'm OK with that. Concealed is concealed. Standard practice.
Good luck with your decision! Let us know how things work out!!

Re: new job
It's kind of a weird policy. I can virtually guarantee you if the company get's sued over your conduct with a firearm, your personal liability policy is not going to help them one bit. Most personal umbrella coverage excludes actions in the scope of your employment, and as an employee your employer is going to be the first one sued...alvins wrote:So i might be working for a new company in a few weeks. But, it lets you carry...go for it. In the highly unlikely situation that you have to use it...You'd rather be unemployed and alive.
