I sympathize with you even though I haven't experienced your problem.
I have never been to a shooting range but twice and that was in Houston
33 yr. ago. I live in the country where I do all of my shooting in my back
yard. I also shoot deer from my patio. I don't know where Haslet is, but anytime your in my area your welcome to come, bring any and all of your
guns and we'll have a shooting good time. I live at Atlanta Tx. 20 mi. south of Texarkana on U.S. 59.

i remember shooting spray paint cans at my uncle's house with a 12 ga. if you've never shot a paint can, i HIGHLY recommend it. it is also worthwhile to pick a color like red, that shows up very well.

my first shooting time was at my uncle's house. we were in the back yard on 88 acres cutting loose with a few rifles, a pistol, and a full-auto thompson.

i hate public ranges. i don't like having to wait on people to get my target changed. a lot of people have 0 etiquette. and a lot of people won't come out and tell you, but they let you know that high powered rifles or handguns are annoying.

Um, p99guy, how did you come to own that version of the P90? I thought the shortened barrel was only legal for law enforcement and military?

thats a case of buy a regular PS90 carbine, get two ATF form 1"s two
FBI "blue fingerprint cards(and have your prints taken) and two passport pics that get attached to the form 1"s...wag it over to the Sheriff for a background check, and hIs signature saying you are who you say you are , you have a clean record, and he has no information leading him to believe you will use this firearm for bad things..Fill out 2 certificate of compliance.
Then all that and a $200.00 money order goes out to BATF NFA Branch In west Virginia...wait 30-60 days for your approved form one with affixed tax stamp to come back. Once received(mine took 47 days) it is Ok to put the short barrel on and its registered as a "SBR" (short Barreled Rifle) The weapon has to be marked with my name,city and state, on the receiver as well. its still a semi auto only PS90, it just been returned to the outward appearance of the P90 submachinegun (its 19.75 inches long)

Machineguns, Silencers, Short barreled rifles, short barreled shotguns and the like is legal in the majority of the states as long as the propper BATF paperwork is filed transfering the ownership to you and the federal taxes are paid. This procedure has exsisted since the Gun control act of 1934
Yes, there are licensed machinegun dealers....The showroom/gunshop part of Cheaper than Dirt in Fort worth sells machineguns and suppressors along with the regular stuff for example.

Kauboy, the closest machinegun dealer to you is that indoor gunrange and gunshop south of Burleson before the town of Joshua that is Ran by Casey Peacock and his Dad. I dont know about how good the Sheriff in Johnson county is about doing the signoff, But if you live just over the line into Tarrant, Sheriff Dee Anderson is progun, and wont bat an eye when you come up to drop off your forms(they do them all the time)

I am young and have always lived in the city. We go to my uncles in Star Valley, Wyoming every few years...I get to shoot at ranges but it isn't the same...isn't as free. I too enjoy blowing up frozen orange juice cans i find in the grocery store dumpster more than I enjoy shooting at a stupid boring piece of paper. I am scared that as an adult I won't get a chance to do any of that...The way I see it they may never ban guns...they will just make it so hard to shoot one that people will give up trying.

Well, the folks that don't want any of us to have guns do work at the "problem" from all angles. Urban sprall kills of the gunranges that at one time was in the boonies. The first thing that happens when a developer buys land that is next to one...they try to get it shut down. City limits also are allowed to grow..the range could find its self after 20 years in business, now inside a city limit, with a hostile city counsel)
So your concern is endeed a real one.
On another note, I did find a indoor range south of benbrook called "ON Target" that had no problems with me shooting my PS90 SBR (on the pistol range no less!) here is a couple of short .AVI's that I made of a friend of mine shooting it there. (taken with a Sony Optio S4)
on the second clip a guy with a 9mm pistol was shooting in the next lane
the PS90 is no louder than the 9mm pistol

One of best things to happen in Texas is the preemption law that prevent cities zoning existing ranges out of existence (LGC §250.001).

Unfortunately, taxes, insurance, and the increasing value of land may do the evil deed. If the owners find they have a million dollars' worth of land that is barely producing a profit, they may sell.

It is indeed easy to manuver with it in a building search (its 19.75inches long)
Here is is compared to two popular types of self defense long arms
Benneli Nova Tactical 12ga. and RRA Entry Tactical AR15 to show the difference. You should have seen the looks it got on the pistol range

Wow... what's the sight offset on that thing? About four inches?

If someone has a knife at my throat, please don't try a head shot on them unless they're at exactly the range you zeroed.

sight offset is almost exactly the same as a AR15..at 7 yards aim at the hairline, hit between the eyes. Not a Problem at all if your used to AR15's allready (I have 30 years with AR15s)

short bursts at times...lol

I picked up a couple of earlier rifles this past week, a Mosin M38 carbine made in 1943 and a 91/30 rifle made in 1940. When I go to Military Gun Supply sometimes things follow me home :)
