Easier to kill you!!

Post by DocSA »

I was told by a very bad person since I have a CHL it will be easier to kill me and get away with it. He, as far as I know, does not have a CHL, does it make it easier for a person to kill someone with a CHL and get away with it?
A bit confused, not looking for a gun fight, I'll get rid of it if that's the case!

Ummm...no.

That is, if you train with your firearm, are proficient in its operation, and are actively aware of your surroundings. If those criteria are met, you are in a much better position to defend your life against deadly force from such "very bad" persons. If those conditions aren't met, you're just as much an easy target as most anyone else.

As for having a CHL making it easier for a scumbag to cop a defense, I don't buy it. Bottom line will come down to evidence, no matter if the victim has a CHL or not. Of course, I'm no lawyer....

A CHL allows an individual the opportunity to respond against serious threats. It does not automatically make one safer, and it provides no protection in and of itself. It is the responsibility of the licensee to be able to proficiently deploy and use a firearm if called for by circumstances, but it is just as much the responsibility of the licensee to avoid such circumstances in the first place if at all possible. No, you don't have to demonstrate retreat anymore, but be sure a jury of your peers would see that you made every effort to avoid escalation of force and deployed a weapon only as a last resort to stop the threat/attack.

Did he or she elaborate? It's just a piece of plastic... I suppose someone could give you a nasty "paper" cut with it, if you sat still long enough.

My CHL actually makes it harder to kill me..."How does it do that?" you ask?...

My CHL serves a dual purpose. It is a license to carry a concealed handgun and a ninja repellant! Don't believe me? Look around and count the number of ninjas you see...you don't see any do you?? Thats because the mere mention of my CHL makes them run to the hills!

...sounds like you need to quit conversing with very bad persons...at least about your CHL...posturing and provoking leads to trouble...on either side of the fence...he shouldn't have even known you have one...now he's holding your ace card in case he wants to call your game...no element of surprise...

On the bright side - if he does kills you, you won't know if he got away with it or not. And if he did get away with it you would not be around to hear him say "I told you so".

This.

Also, whether or not he has a CHL himself is irrelevant. Bad people don't care about the law.

Criminals train also. They learn a lot in prision and have motivations not to make the same mistakes again.
The CHL main job is to teach you to be more alert and not walk into dangerous places. Avoidance is the best defense and the fight you do not have to fight is the best fight won.
I'm confused by people that get a CHL, Shoot only a few times if at all and feel they are safe. No one is ever safe and shooting is fun. As my wife said its cheaper than golf. Shoot often!

Cmon, HotLead - everyone knows ninjas are invisible... with or without a CHL, you're never going to see one.

If a 'bad' person has told me that they intend to 'kill' me - a) report it to the police; b) stay armed and vigilant; 3) stay the heck away from people like that!!! What are you doing bragging about your CHL in front of the rough crowd anyway -- sheesh!!

Ditto... I'm dying to know the story behind this, but I know we won't get the truth because he's been ripped on for his actions. (appropriate ripping... not blaming the board. That's how we learn!)

So OP, please, let us know how this 'bad person' came about saying this to you and why? I know it may be embarrassing after members here jumped on you for your disclosure of your CHL, but for learning's sake, can you let us know?

We all make mistakes and learn, so hopefully you can help others and yourself by giving us the background.

Why would you tell a "very bad person" that you have a CHL?
Why would you associate with a person you know to be "very bad"?

I would agree with you (above) that you should turn in your CHL. Seriously.
