ATF and lost paperwork

Post by OldSchool »

Time for a rant:
Sent in our C&R (class 3 FFL) request first week in January, and received the receipt saying that they had received the letter. We had been in touch with them by phone and email (they were very helpful), and were told to go ahead and send it to Houston.

Having read of some folks getting theirs within a couple of weeks, I called twice at one-month intervals. Each time, the person picking up the phone seemed to not really be aware of what a C&R license was, but the conversation always ended with my being told that they had 90 days to get back to me (including a mention of someone calling to schedule an appointment, which is not part of the class III review). :???:

So, waited until this week to get pushy about it. Turns out that they do not have the paperwork!! We'll have to re-apply all over again (complete with mailing charges), this time sending it to W. Va. :banghead:

If they'd been serious about answering my questions earlier, instead of brushing me off with a pat answer, then we wouldn't have wasted all of this time. :grumble

It's no big deal for them to loose, or incorrectly fill out, paper work but wait and see what they do about an FFL making the same mistake...
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Update

The license and books (well, almost all the books -- some are on backorder) were waiting for us when we returned from our trip! :woohoo

We finally had to send copies of the original to Atlanta before they could do anything, so it was April before anything got started. The stuff evidently arrived just days after we left.... :waiting:

Now, how much are we allowed to spend, again...?! :evil2:

You're right, even with the frustration, it looks to be a good deal.
