Nope. Not even telling this guy I have a CHL unless i have to. It is my responsibility to keep my gun concealed, but in the event i fail to conceal it by accidal purposes im still legally covered under Texas law. Not my responsibility to Explain that to him. That said, he presented no threats to me. He didnt threaten to call cops, and didnt pull a gun on me. Had either of those happened, i would have been explaining like crazy :)
TAM--old, fat, and white hair. You have a CHL. Not sure, but you could be my grandfather.

You can't be too unfreindly looking since the guy confroted you about your failure to conceal.

The tattoo thing confusses me... I have never been in the military so I may not know the fine-lines here. Most seem to say that they can keep you from enlisting and frowned on.... Probably half the old timers I know (and in all the old cartoons) who were in the military would have a ship, anchor, "momma" an airplane, etc (usually after getting drunk the first paycheck in)...including my father-in-law. Can someone explain the difference to us civies?

Let me clarify, as I was a Recruiter for 3 years. You could not have tattoo's that showed while in uniform. As long as they were covered up in uniform, they were good to go. The Army in particuluar has now been slacking off on that requirement.wgoforth wrote:The tattoo thing confusses me... I have never been in the military so I may not know the fine-lines here. Since these folks I know got their tats after enlisting, could that be the diff? I mean would you booted out if you got one after getting in?Purplehood wrote:Let me clarify, as I was a Recruiter for 3 years. You could not have tattoo's that showed while in uniform. Technically you could, but it is almost always up to the discretion of the Commanding Officer. But legally speaking, you could be charged under the Uniform Code of Justice. Once again, that is up to the Commanding Officer.wgoforth wrote:Since these folks I know got their tats after enlisting, could that be the diff? In today's Army I seriously doubt any action would be taken. When I was a Marine (before I was a Doggie), there would probably have been zero-tolerance.

Isn't there something in the Penal Code about intentional failure to conceal flatbread?Keith B wrote:Well, I guess I can understand why someone with tats all over might be stereotyped into bing a gang banger. Maybe if you wear one of these you won't look suspicious, no one will stereotype you and you can also cover your gun better.![]()

Re: Wally Walk Hillarity--Life Lesson
When I worked in the ER back in California, there was a guy who worked with me briefly. This was almost 30 years ago. This guy had previously been a Pharmacist's Mate in the Navy. On shore leave once in San Diego, he went out and got power drunk with a shipmate. He last remembered talking about maybe getting a tattoo before he passed out. The next morning, he awoke back in his room with a massive hangover, and not much memory about what had happened the night before; but when he took a hot shower, he noticed that his backside burned in one spot from the hot water. He was barely conscious, and drowsily assumed that he had fallen the night before and bruised himself, and he didn't really think to take a look at his backside in the mirror. But after about 2 or 3 days of noticing this discomfort in the shower, he finally stood before the mirror in his birthday suit and took a look at his backside, expecting to see a nasty contusion.
What he saw was a fresh tattoo of Elmer Fudd pointing a shotgun at his nether regions, saying "Come outta deah you siwwy wabbit!" Apparently, his shipmate had taken certain liberties in a tattoo parlor when my coworker was incoherently drunk. He alleged to me that he still had the tattoo to that day, although I never saw it. Thank goodness.
When I was a yoot, I thought it would be pretty cool to get a tattoo. A high school friend of mine back in the 1960s who was arguably the coolest guy in the school had one. He rode a Harley too, and wore his hair slicked back and a black leather jacket. He was like a real-life Fonzi. Anyway, I never did get one, and to this day at 58 years old, I still have no tattoos. I occasionally see an interesting one and I can admire the degree of artistry that goes into some of them, and I don't care if someone else covers themselves from head to foot, as long as the images aren't demonic or spiritually unhealthy in some way or other, but they just aren't for me.
I did, however, in my yoot once let a very fine young lady pierce my ear with a large needle to put a gold stud in it. I had hoped to "know" her in a more intimate manner, and I was willing to let her do that to me if it would let me do something to her later. Strangely, the relationship didn't last. Two weeks later, my normally very tolerant and liberal father asked me if I liked living in his home rent-free enough to take that stud out and let the piercing close up. Well.... when he put it that way....

I can confidently say that I'd rather have been the guy to 'receive' the tattoo and not know about it until later, than be the guy who applied the tattoo, fully conscious! The Annoyed Man wrote:

That is hilarious. I wonder if he ever figured out which tattoo artist did this?

Re: Wally Walk Hillarity--Life Lesson
I don't really know. The guy moved on not too long afterward. I think this was maybe his first job after he got out of the Navy, and he was just using it to "hold down the fort" so to speak while he was trying to figure out what he really wanted to do. He only worked in my department for a few months. But I will never forget that tattoo story.SQLGeek wrote:The Annoyed Man wrote:What he saw was a fresh tattoo of Elmer Fudd pointing a shotgun at his nether regions, saying "Come outta deah you siwwy wabbit!" When I was going to UTEP as a freshman, I lost a bet to my (now ex) wife and had to enroll in a ballet class. There was a guy in that class who insisted on wearing white tights, and he had a large tattoo of a rose on one buttock that was quite visible through his tights. I got a crick in my neck trying to keep my head turned the other way so as to avoid being blinded. I have a couple of other tattoo stories, but they aren't repeatable here.

I know your post has been out here awhile but i just read it and wanted to say thanks for sharing. Your post and comments from others caused / helped me think about how to respond if I run into a similar situation. Good info.
Re: Wally Walk Hillarity--Life Lesson
I wouldn't even respond to him because he's an idiot. Arguing with an idiot only lowers you to his level. I mean, if a dog barks at you, do you bark back? Why is he an idiot? Well, if you were a gangbanger, then being rude to you would "disrespect" you and he'd be killed on the spot. He wanted to find out if you were a gangbanger by being rude to you. Wow. I didn't know that idiots like that survived puberty!snatchel wrote: wanted to ensure I wasn't some hoodlum running around with a pistol tucked into his pants, and wanted an explanation.. all in a very rude tone.

P.S. We appreciate your serving in the military and defending our great country!

I've been carrying for years and never been "outed" once. I must be doing something wrong...
