So, not that this has anything to do with Texas (as far as I know), but I think it's something that definately will be in the near future so I wanted to hear some of the general publics opinion. Certain counties in Oregon have revoked/denied Concealed Carry permits for those who have medical marijuana cards. I dont want this thread to go crazy on the legalities, morals, and ideas about marijuana usage, I'm just curious if y'all think this is fair. The way I see it -- shall not be infringed. Sounds wierd coming out of my mouth at the moment. Anyway, the state requires me to use responsible judgement when drinking as far as my CHL goes, I think the same should apply to Medical Marijuana.
Feel free to move this if it's in the wrong place Moderators! Oh, and for the record==I do not smoke marijuana. I did once... a long time ago. Horrible, horrible side effects for me.

Re: CHL & Med Marijuana
Politically, if we're going to fight for "shall not be infringed" style constitutional carry, drug users probably shouldn't be the foundation of our argument.
However, as a libertarian, frankly, I should be able to hire hookers, do cocaine, and wear a gun all at once. As long as I'm doing so on my own property. Freedom means accepting people doing things you don't approve of. (Disclaimer: I'm a happily married man who has no interest in hookers or cocaine).
Considering the fact there is lots of discussion on this site regarding whether CHL should look to the .08 intoxication law for driving or if even one drop of alcohol is enough to discourage carry, I think this could be an interesting discussion and I look forward to other opinions.
Frankly, I'd be far less concerned about marijuana users carrying than heroin or cocaine users. That being said, carrying a deadly weapon in public requires a certain amount of public trust and responsibility. I don't want people around me carrying drunk and I'd rather not have people around me carrying high either.
If you're going to choose to carry a weapon, you should do so with the ability to exercise reasonable judgment. Whether a person is capable of doing so with "a" beer or glass of wine, or "a" joint I'd idealistically like to leave to the individual to determine. If you're not mature enough to determine your own limits, I'd hope you're not carrying anyway.

Re: CHL & Med Marijuana
Being as I was once an avid pot smoker and now a CHL holder I feel i would rather be an asset to the community rather than a liability. If for what ever reason I had to begin smoking pot again, I would not feel like an asset if I carried my weapons with me. And even now I do not drink while carrying concealed as I know when the moment happens that I need to deploy my weapon I must be ready to process the situation and act accordingly. And any impairment could cause you to take the a life or lose a life you didnt plan on. Heck I worry about my wife being able to take action in the middle of the night as it takes her an hour to wake up in the morning.
I sleep with one eye open and my finger on the trigger. haha that sounds like a country western song or a kidd rock song.. haha
