In a few weeks I'll be taking a 13 state road trip over 3 weeks. I just wanted to share that I've worked out routes to and from our destination that keep us in gun friendly states. I specifically kept us out of Illinois. So, to that state I say "no gas/convenience store/hotel money for you"!!!
(While we are making an overnight stop in Ohio, and that state doesn't recognize Texas CHL'ers, complying with law there is pretty easy. Unload it and box it.)
I've never taken my CHL lightly, but as I began to map out this trip, it dawned on me how important it is to my wife and I to be able to protect ourselves, and our kids.
Oh, and why are we driving? Because of two things: 1) Our family hasn't taken a long road trip in years, and 2) I was NOT going to let any TSA official grope me, my wife, or my kids.
Just sharing my thoughts.....

enjoy the trip and stay safe. Once you become accustomed to carrying and the sense of security it enables you feel strange without it.

Re: Road Trip Observation
Have a great trip.
Hopefully you're planning more than a few "Blue Highways"?
It's a great country. Even more beautiful if you can stay off the interstates.
I've chosen the grope a few times.... Better than being forced to take a naked skeletal photo.
The grope wasn't so bad. FWIW, I'd put my kids through the grope before I'd send them through the photo booth.
Avoiding both is better

Re: Road Trip Observation
I'd recommend a Utah CFP for Ohio, but don't think that you'd have it back in time for your trip.
Give Arizona a look - I believe that they will accept your Texas CHL as proof of training. It does state on their website that training must occur within AZ, but apparently that is not the case.
Safe travels!
