Lead Sources

I am new to the Dallas area and was wondering if anyone knows a good local source for lead ingots. I would prefer to avoid scrounging wheelweights if possible.

Wheel weights have to be melted, cleaned, and cast into ingots, a time consuming job that can be very dirty and dangerous. Wheel weights make a good bullet but they aren't the optimum alloy for casting. Most users of wheel weights use the WW metal for alloying to make a desired Brinell hardness alloy. "Store bought" alloy is easier to use since it's ready to melt and cast. I use wheel weight metal and lead and tin to make my bullet alloy. I enjoy the tinkering.

For me its not the work to prepare them, it is the hassle of trying to find a supplier and maintain that relationship. Preparing the alloy is part of the fun.

You are not ignorant..Ignorance means not being smart enough seek help. I use WW exclusive for practice, not SD. Have over a ton at my disposal..no, not for sale.
