Renewal...I should know, but...

Post by ScottDLS »

OK, I got my renewal notice yesterday for my Texas CHL. Mine expires on my birthday in early November. The form says that if this is my third consecutive renewal, I don't have to take the CHL class. As much as I'd like to...shlepping over to the range and 5 hours for a course on Saturday... Well I'd just like to avoid it.

So this is my 4th consecutive renewal...and I took the course in 2006 at my last one. What do I do to get my renewal? Just go on line and register? Do I have to do prints? Or is it like a DL where they just send you a new card? I still live in the same place.

Scott, just apply online and the checklist that's presented should not indicate that a CHL-100 is required. The requirement is training within 6 months of the current app or the previous app for 3rd or subsequent renewal.

Thanks. I did that, but the checklist has a CHL-100 on it, but then a star next to it and note on the bottom saying not required on 3rd or subsequent renewal...? :???:

Check list WILL come back indicating a CHL-100 is required, just ignore it.

I guess they haven't got that part updated in their system. I should know not to give them that much credit.

I think you have answered your own question. CHL-100 not required. They shold send you a new license in a few weeks. You will have to take the class next time and every other time from now on.

As an update...received my renewal CHL in the mail today (June 16, 2011). Did the online renewal 5/17...sent DD-214 honorable discharge to get the military discount and the electronic bar code form 5/18. No CHL-100 as this was my fourth renewal and I took the class last time. So just under 1 mo, door to door. OK I guess.

How much was the renewal after the military discount? (I, too, plan on sending them a copy of my DD-214). Did you have to pay the full amount on-line, and were later issued a refund check for the difference, or how does that part of the process work?

Thanks.

PM sent. To answer publicly... It was $35.00 for 5 years and I paid that to my credit card online and completed the online application. They didn't start processing it until I sent in the DD-214 and bar code receipt from the online payment. They used my prints and picture from last renewal.

Question on the DD-214. If one has already used the discount and previously supplied the DD-214, why does the system not already know to give the discount on renewal?
