A couple of Class C offenses

Post by jd1416 »

Hello all,

I have a question regarding my past. My sophmore year in high school about (6-7 yrs. ago) I was involved in 2 altercations that resulted in 2 class c misdemeanor charges. I was charged with assault. I never got arrested but was required to pay a fine. Since then, the only trouble I have had with the law is speeding tickets. Currently I am in the process of purchasing a gun with the hope of getting my CHL right after. When I was browsing through the requirements on their website for applicants, I came across a section that mentions some class C misdemeanors can cause disqualification for your CHL. I was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences and could tell me what the outcome was ? It would be unfortunate to lose my application fee for not doing some research prior to submission.

-thanks for any help it is much appreciated

I called DPS but the lady i spoke to was no help at all.

Class C misdemeanors are generally not a problem except for disorderly conduct. Misdemeanors in general don't disqualify you after 5 years. The common exceptions are domestic violence and multiple drug/alcohol offenses demonstrating chemical dependency.

I agree completely with the answer given above - I would also suggest that you contact them via the "Contact Us" page. I have found it to be the best way to get a straight answer to general questions.
