WTB beater car gun <$200-FOUND

I have a HiPoint in. 45 that has never had a problem. Not one FTF. I can't say that about my Colt 1911 or my M&P. 45. So I guess we've had different experiences. Still, I sure don't carry this as my primary weapon.

My only experience with Hi-Point was at a pawn shop in Plano. I was just checking it out, moving the slide back and forth to see how well that functioned when all of a sudden it stopped. No, the slide did not lock back. It got stuck. I tried to get it back where it was supposed to go and so did they. I finally left about 5 minutes later and as I left I looked back to see them banging the slide against the edge of the counter to try and get the slide back where it was supposed to be. Granted, this is only one brief intro to the Hi-Point line, but it was enough for me. I would never, ever want to have to trust my life to a Hi-Point.

I ended up going with a used Taurus PT-145. Just cleaned it and hopefully can take it out to the range once I get back from out of town. I just added my first .45 handgun to my collection. I am going to try some 230g PDX1 in it to see how it shoots and then build a car carry rig to keep it concealed yet make it easy to draw. I don't have a center console so I will probably have to be inventive.

the 145 was my first gun, and was used as a carry gun for a while. Nice, solid little pistol. Congrats.

Especially if you got it for under 200, then you did VERY well.

Congrats on the PT-145. You can't beat 10 + 1 rounds of .45 for a beater gun.

I hope yours will be as reliable as my PT-111 (same gun in 9MM).
About 2,500 rounds through mine with nary a hiccup or a return to Taurus.

I should change the name of the thread, it is anything but a beater gun. I am happy with my purchase, but I will have to take it out to the range soon and run it through the gauntlet of different ammo.

Just as a fun FYI...the Taurus 24/7 mags fit in that gun.. So if you do keep it in the car, you can throw a 12 rd 24/7 mag in it....13 rounds of .45 is a heck of a car gun!

You will also be able to use Para ordnance P-14 magazines. 14 rounds in the mag.

I have the P-11 9mm and while it is very compact and simple and lightweight, it is NOT very accurate. I know it has a short barrel and is not supposed to be a precise long range weapon; however, I also have a snub nose Taurus .357 revolver with the same size or shorter barrel and it is VERY accurate, even at 50-100 feet! Some may say that has a lot to do with the rounds and the difference between the 9mm and the .357 (or .38 spl when I am feeling cheap at the range!). So, if you want an accurate hand gun at more than a 8 feet or so, the Kel-Tec P-11 9mm may not be the best choice.

YMMV,, My first Kel-tec was serial #0996.
I would feed it 3-5 hundered rounds a week shooting with Tim Oxley back in the late 90s
and it fared well matched up against Glocks in IDPA style shooting.

Now I don't think I could match your "Bullseye shooting" at THIRTY YARDS with your snub .357
(caliber isn't going to matter much at these distances), but this is a CQB defensive weapon, not a hunting pistol.

Per my post on the P-14 Mags, I love my wifes P145 and it is a tack driver at defensive combat range. I hope you found a Generation 3 model, some of the earlier problems associated with this line have been all worked out now.
