AR finally getting built - Where to buy ammo

Post by AustinMRH »

Any thoughts on where the cheapest ammo is locally? I know AIM has the best price online, just looking for someplace in Austin/Houston for my first couple hundred rounds.

GT Dist. has some cheap stuff online, but still 6.99/box.

Look around for the 100 rd boxs of the lake city stuff runs about 42 bucks my local shop sells it maybe yours will have it also. I saw walmart had a 100 rd box for 49. Another option is going to academy and buying the 440rd can for 149.00.

At GTs, $7/20 rds is tough to beat = $0.35/Rd.

The 500-Rd cases at GTs also work out to $0.35/rd

Occassionally Cabelas will drop the same American Eagle 55-grain FMJ to $5.99/20 rds

URGH!!!!!! I feel so old when I read stuff like the prices of ammo on these threads. I swear on all that's holy, I can remember being at a gun show with a buddy who walked away when a guy wanted 1.10 for a box of 20. My buddy wanted a better price because he was buying a case. He got his ammo for about a buck a box before we left that day. That was for brass cased ammo...BTW!

Seems like it was just "the other day". Sigh.... :???:

That beats the Walmart close to me. They had 100rd box for $39.97.

I'll pick some up from GT then for this weekend. After that I'll be doing a lot of driving between Houston and Austin, so I'll start hitting up the Ammotogo folks.

The last of the parts came in yesterday so the gun is assembled, just waiting to get back my torque wrench to check the barrel. Looking forward to throwing lead this weekend.

Looks like most of Aim's supply is sold out.

Buds has pretty good prices.

Aim restocks very frequently in my experience.

I've had many great experiences with Palmetto State Armory.

Walmart has 100 round boxes for $38.00. If I remember correctly its 55gr Remington .223. I cleaned out my local store... 12 boxes.
