In Sycamore, Illinois, in 1957 a 7-year-old girl disappeared. Her remains turned up months later in western Illinois.
Sycamore is still a small rural town about 50 miles west of Chicago. At that time it would have been in the middle of nowhere.
A local man, then about 18 years old, was suspected; but he had an alibi.
This week a warrant was issued for the suspect, now 71 years old and living in Seattle.

Fear, anger, hatred, and greed. The devil's all-you-can-eat buffet.

It's always good to hear when someone like that gets caught. I wonder what took the ex-girlfriend 54 years
to come forward with that information???

I don't know.
Sometimes people reach a certain age or some other milestone in their lives and decide to settle old issues that have been bothering them.
There is a phenomenon of deathbed confessions—which actually are rare and overdramatized—and similar late-in-life revelations. So-called Deep Throat from the Watergate era would be an example.
