Homemade OWB Hybrid

Post by Warhammer »

One of the problems with adding a laser to you carry gun is that it severely limits your choices in concealment holsters. My solution is to just make my own! I decided I wanted something that carries my PT145 a little closer to my side than the paddle holster I made a few months ago, but I still wanted OWB. It had to ride as high as possible, have a sweat shiled, and I also wanted something that was easy on\off, so I wouldn't have to take off my belt to don or doff the holster. Anyway, after a couple of hours at the kitchen counter (it's too hot to work in the garage!), here's what I came up with:

I could probably make it ride a little tighter to my side if I dropped the gun down an inch or two, but I wanted it as high as possible to avoid sticking out from under my shirt when I raise my arms. I haven't finished the edges of the leather yet because I figured I'd give it a couple of days of testing before I did the final finishing. I'll probably dye the leather a deep brown and finish the edges in black.

That is a very interesting Idea. You should market it! You did an excellent job of making it. I did something similar for my IWB holster and realized that I could sell them. I now have a sole proprietorship and am making quite a bit of side money from holsters.

I like the idea of using the snaps. I had a bail bonds company contract me to make them a set of IWB holsters for each bounty hunter and they wanted nylon keepers instead of clips. I ended up liking the idea quite a bit because it's so easy to remove when you need to take it off.

And look! You already have a first customer!

Yeah, I noticed how bad the trash bin was after I had already posted the pics. I just KNEW somebody would call me out on it.

Look on the bright side no dirty under wear and most eyes are focused on the holster, which btw is really nice. How long did it take to make.

It took me a couple of hours to make. I could have done it quicker, but I was working on a couple of other projects at the same time.

I highly suggest you market this design. I have not seen something like this before and you have the potential to make alot of money off it.

Thanks guys!

So far this rig is working out pretty well. I added a second snap to the straps and, as long as I use a good belt, there's no problem with "flip out."

On the next one, I'll probably make my own leather straps, rather than using the pre-made rubber straps that I used this time. I think leather will be less stretchy and look better, and I know it will be less expensive. I'm also going to make it ride 1/2"-1" lower, just to experiment to find the most stable configuration.

Well when your ready to sell one let me know how much. Just to make it easy I also have a PT145.
